If New York City has a brand, it’s the iconic skyline—always recognizable at a glance, always changing. And who built that brand? The construction industry, of course—creating housing for over 8 million residents, and growing. Providing office space and showrooms for over 200,000 businesses and lodging for an ever-growing population of visitors than last year topped 60 million.
That’s a lot of construction and with it, ever-growing profits and costs. No one knows those numbers better than COO of Citiscape Company, Olga Khaykina. An industry-innovator, Khaykinahas helped design an app that is providing critical solutions to construction managers and workers at every level of this thriving business. “Everyone wants to live in New York. It’s convenient and prestigious, and people are ready to pay for that. NYC’s real estate market is a constantly growing industry, with more than a million properties and a value of over $1.26 trillion. But the one less obvious reason why they have to pay so much is the cost of constructing buildings. Frankly speaking, very few people realize how complicated construction work in New York is.”
Powered by knowledge, Khaykina and her team developed the Citiscape app. At a tap, the Citiscape app helps to organize and manage all stages of the construction process, ensuring that no matter how experienced in construction a user is, the app will be of assistance from the first day to the last. First-time home buyers will be able to see a progress report on their project, indicating what percent of the necessary steps has been completed. For big developers who are managing several constructions at the same time, the app can store information about multiple projects at once, so users can easily toggle between them with a tap of the finger. As Khaykina is quick to point out, “our Citiscape team of developers and real estate experts does an incredible job to provide customers with quicker and more convenient solutions to handle ECB/DOB related issues. Having a 15-year experience in the industry we know that this is the biggest pain.”
Equally exciting things are happening behind the scenes. Olga Khaykina, COO and co-founder of the application’s idea, is now a key player in a traditionally male-oriented business, proving that great ideas and hard work can transcend discussions about gender. However, Khaykina does acknowledge the ever-present disparity in her field.“The low appearance of women in the industry needs to be paid attention to now to ensure the right foundations for the future. Everyone involved in the construction or real estate business, disregarding sex, has to understand how vital diversity is for the future of the industry. I am very sensitive on the empowerment and networking events for women in construction, and I am persuaded that they can serve to convert the problem into the conversation. I feel, this is a great chance to improve the conditions for females in construction to ruin the conservative stereotypes and improve the industry overall.”
Despite the challenges, or perhaps motivated by them, Khaykina loves her job and the constant rhythm of construction.“It keeps me driven and eager to learn more. Despite that low percentage, I know that I constantly add new approaches and increase diversity. I’m a professional born in a different country, but I obtained colossal experience managing real estate architecture business in New York. This cross-culture, the swap of know-how and knowledge of DOB and ECB procedures are powerful utensils that help us to continuously develop to the benefit of ourselves and our industry. I want to prove, on the example of my success and career growth, that it doesn’t matter if you are a woman or a man, you have to love what you do in order to deliver the best.”
The app has quickly become an indispensable tool in providing solutions and mobility to construction workers and management. With technology advancing at a rapid pace, the Citiscape app developers have proven, that the construction industry will benefit greatly to increase safety, improve productivity, and manage teams more effectively just by adding a single icon to your device interface. The app ensures transparency via instant Department of Buildings notifications in real-time (currently available for NY only), implemented in clear and friendly interface, allowing to fix the problems before they are escalated. This has made the app a must-have for anyone in construction determined to reduce cost and optimize efficiency.
Not surprisingly, Khaykina’s passion for excellence is driving the Citiscape app to a new height of excellence in the field, contributing to the slow but steady evolution of that New York City skyline and the industry that we can credit with its construction.
