Getting an inadequate amount of sleep is an alarming thing. It’s a disorder that needs to be addressed and treated like one. Speaking of which, it’s about time insomnia got our attention. This sleeping disorder is something way more serious than that. Elusiveness is a common condition that almost every other adult experiences in life. What is Insomnia?

Insomnia is not plain sleep deprivation, rather an inability to sleep adequately for a stretched period of time. Sometimes this problem is not too acute, which means it subsides with time. However, sometimes it becomes chronic, which means it needs to be treated medically. Now, how can one find out if they’re suffering from insomnia? Well, the most common symptoms of insomnia include experiencing difficulty in falling or remaining asleep, exhibiting inconsistent patterns and sleeping in a stressed state of mind.

We cannot stress enough on how bad insomnia is for the body, as well as the mind. 1. Start by Maintaining a Schedule

The first thing to do to tackle insomnia is maintain a sleep schedule and follow it to the word. Write down your waking up and sleeping hours, for all seven days of the week.

Another thing that induces sleep is exercise. Make a habit of working out once a day. You can do it either when you wake up in the morning or in the evening before you hit the sack. Exercise relaxes your mind by reducing stress hormones and increases endorphins which are natural mood-lifters. And when your mood is pleasant, you ultimately get a good night’s.

3. Keep Your Phone Away

The phone is the biggest distraction that can easily shoo sleep away, just like that! Once you’ve hit the bed, don’t reach out for your phone again and again. Keep it away from you, preferably at an elevated or a distant spot so you don’t feel tempted to get it every now and then.

4. Don’t Have Dinner Right before Bed

Another mistake people often make despite complaining about having lost sleep is keeping an untimely dinner routine. Late dinners or midnight munching activate your digestive system and keeps your brain up. Remember we just talked about maintaining a routine? Yes, don’t forget to schedule your lunch and dinner in that too.

5. Your Sleeping Environment Should Be Sleep-Inducing

Sleeping in an uncomfortable environment can make you uneasy and restless. Thus, make sure your room is clean, your bed is made, the lighting and temperature of your room are set to help you drift into a nice and peaceful slumber, as soon as you lie down on the bed. Also, if you have a pet that likes to sleep in the same room as you, try and make it sleep in another room, so your sleep stays uninterrupted.

6. Get Rid of the Stress

Stress is the root cause of all problems, period. Adults need around 8-9 hours of sleep, daily, or the first thing that would go down is productivity and the second, would be health. Insomniacs find themselves going through severe mental stress only because of whatever effort they make, they make it in vain.
