A successful blog is one that pays for itself. It’s different from a normal blog which would make you little income but a successful blog is one that pays for itself 100%.

Who wouldn’t want to have a blog like that in 2019, an online business that covers all its expenses of running the blog at a profit and not at a loss?

TIP: You need a Paypal Account

It’s essential as your blog or website becomes more successful businesses would want to seek advertising opportunities on your blog, and most of them would be international companies, so you need a secure way of receiving money online, and that’s why I recommend PayPal.

1. Your Blog’s Purpose

According to Paul Aroloye from Nairatips, the common blog purpose you get around the internet is for making money online. Well, making money is important but what is more important? Value.

You need to start your blog with a value first purpose.

This doesn’t mean you are not looking or working out a plan to get money which is a return on your hard work, skill and time but value comes first.

In everything you do, with each blog content have it at the back of your mind – What will happen when people read your content? Would their questions be answered or problem solved or would they need to find another blog to solve their problem?

2. Domain Name

Don’t tell me that all the good domains have already been taken. That’s not true, creating good domain names are still possible.

All you need are 2-3 words. Use dot-o-mator domain name generator tool to help you combine words together to generate something unique and brandable for your successful blog.

3. Blogging Platform

One word – WordPress.

Because it is free, easy to setup and use. With billions of supports and millions of plugins to make your site function better.

Don’t be deceived, WordPress is the best!

4. Hosting Plan

Your hosting plan is the life of your website. If you use a bad host, your blog will not grow as fast, will be slow, flooded with Google penalties because of bad shared hosting plans and the worst of them all is DOWNTIME!

You never want your site to be down if you are site is down its DEAD. You are literally losing money.

Buy good hosting plans from the best hosting companies like Siteground, Bluehost or Kinsta. I have used all 3 of them, Bluehost has the cheapest plans but good host quality, Siteground is faster and slightly more expensive then Kinsta is expensive but worth every penny!

If you are serious about building a successful blog, you would buy 1 year hosting so as to light a fire and make you commit to this project unless you will lose money.

5. Install WordPress

WordPress is so easy that you need to click 1 button to install WordPress on your new blog.

And you will be assisted throughout the setup process.

6. Monetize your Blog

From day 1, you need to start thinking about the various ways your blog can make money but that doesn’t mean you wouldn’t produce good content and provide value first to people.

The monetization plan is hit the ground running.

You don’t wait before you start making money with your blog.

The ultimate monetization technique for most successful blogs is Google AdSense + Affiliate marketing + Sponsored posts.

7. Set Milestones

This milestone would help you keep track of your efforts so far and to check if what you are doing is worth it and ultimately if you should continue or drop it.

Here are some of the milestones

  • Google AdSense approval
  • Affiliate network(s) approval
  • 500 page views
  •  500 visitors
  • 1st comment from a reader
  • 1st email received from a customer, reader or client (doesn’t matter what the email says).
  • 1st sponsored post job
  • Your first banner add
  • Reaching 1000+ views.
