The first thing that you should know about this place is how to get there easily. You probably won’t be able to find a more efficient method than by visiting Copenhagen and then taking a drive that’s going to last somewhat less than two hours.
However, if you are not going there by your car, or you are just way too tired to drive after your previous journey, it might be a great idea to take the direct train that’s going to take you from Copenhagen, through the beautiful countryside and right into Odense in about hour and a half. Yes, trains these days are fast, especially in countries such as Denmark.
Okay, now that you know how to get there, let’s take a look at some of the things that you can see in this amazing city.
The Famous Egeskov Castle
If you are here on a mission to see one of the world’s most beautiful buildings, then the famous Egeskov Castle should be on top of your priority list. For all of you who love history and facts, this one has been built back in 1554, and it is located right next to a lake, which allows you to take beautiful photographs of it with the nice reflections from the water.
Currently, you’ll need to get permission to go inside it, but that can be easily done if you are a tourist who wants to explore. The interior is mind-blowing, and you’ll even get to see the machicolations, which are holes used to drop hot oil over the attackers when the castle is being under siege. There are other types of holes as well, ones that are used for the arrows to be shot through, and they are located on each side of the towers.
The Hans Christian Andersen Museum
If you ever wanted to visit the birthplace of Hans Christian Andersen, this is your chance to do it. Back in 1805, this place probably wasn’t even remotely famous, but nowadays it’s one of the most visited spots in entire Denmark. You should pay a visit if your roads ever bring you here.
Inside you can see a lot of drawings and personal items that the famous author used, and if you are lucky enough, you will be allowed to take a few photographs as well. Also, there’s a shop which sells almost all of his books in a wide variety of languages, so if you are lucky enough, you will find one in your language, or at least another one that you understand.

It was opened back in 1930, but if you compare it nowadays with what it was back when it opened, you’ll probably think that it’s a completely different place. Currently, the Odense zoo has more than one hundred and fifty unique species, and new ones are brought in every other year.
If you have children, and you want to teach them some more about nature and animals, there isn’t a better way to do it than by taking them on a journey in the Odense Zoo. Giraffes? Lemurs? You name it, they have it.
Montergarden
Are you into history? Or you’re perhaps a fan of beautiful-looking constructions? If the answer is yes, Montergarden should be your next destination if you’re visiting Odense. This place is a museum, one that can teach you a lot about the history of the city, and it goes back to the middle age, which is so amazing.
Besides, the museum is known to be one of the best-looking buildings in the entire place, so if you like architecture, that’s just one more reason to visit. It’s not expensive to go here, and you’ll end up learning a lot, but even if you are not into history all that much, the exterior of the building will charm you no-doubt. All sorts of wooden carvings were carefully made on the outside of the building, and this is more than enough to intrigue everyone who visits. Upon seeing the inside, there’s no way on Earth that you’ll refuse to go inside the museum.
