Is Jon Snow A Targeryen? This Game Of Thrones Fan Theory May Be True!

The Lord of Light, the Heart of Fire, the God of Flame and Shadow has spoken! Jon Snow has risen! Last night’s Game of Thrones was EPIC and hinted at some important plot points that the internet has been ruminating over since the very beginning of the series. Boring Bran may be back, but by the looks of last night’s episode and the preview for next week, his tree visions are set to confirm a popular fan theory about his newly reborn “brother,” finally answering the question, “Is Jon Snow really a Targeryen?!”

First, fans have been hoping and praying that despite being supposedly deader than dead, maybe just maybe Jon Snow would somehow find a way of coming back to life, either through his direwolf Ghost or with the help of Melisandre’s magic. Who knows if this is what George R. R. Martin had in mind — the TV series has taken the plot in its own direction since the author has yet to complete the latest book in the Song of Ice and Fire series – but those prayers were blessedly answered. After being asked by Davos for her help, a depressed Melisandre and her Forever Young Choker gave Jon Snow a haircut, beard trim and a sponge bath, and said a few prayers over his lifeless, naked, sexy body. Her magic didn’t seem to work, but as soon as everyone left the room, Ghost issued a little sigh and all of a sudden, Jon Snow’s eyes burst open with a gasp! HE’S ALIVVVVVVEEEEEEE!!!!!!

According to an interview with Entertainment Weekly, cover star Kit Harington says you’ll be seeing plenty more of him.  “It’s a massive season for Jon,” Harington tells us. “It’s his biggest season for him so far.”

So, what might be in store for the newly risen Jon Snow? Finally learning the truth about his birth, his parents and his right to the Iron Throne. Oh yes, there were plenty of hints dropped throughout the episode and in next week’s preview that all but confirm that a long held fan theory about Jon Snow’s origins is actually TRUE.

Now, we’ve long been told that Jon Snow is supposedly the bastard son of Ned Stark and some random woman he had an affair with, however, most fans believe that’s far from the truth. (Martin, in fact, asked series creators David Benioff and D. B. Weiss to guess the identity of Jon Snow’s mother before he granted them permission to adapt his books, all but confirming that the story Ned tells Jon about his mother is a lie.) During last night’s episode, we got a glimpse at who many fans believe is Jon’s real mother:

Lyanna is Ned Stark’s sister, who was once engaged to his BFF, Robert Baratheon. Don’t you worry, no one thinks Ned stuck his dick in his sister — that’s Cersei and Jamie’s territory. The theory is that Ned only pretended to be Jon Snow’s dad to protect him from Robert and the Lannisters — because Jon Snow’s real dad was … Rhaegar Targeryen!

Previews for next week feature a young Ned Stark preparing to fight Arthur Dayne at the Tower of Joy, the place where this fan theory has Jon Snow being born:

It was at the Tower of Joy that Rhaegar held Lyanna after he “kidnapped” her – though fans believe they had, in fact, eloped – and where Robert Baratheon killed Rhaegar, thus assuming the Iron Throne. The Tower of Joy is also where Ned found his sister lying in a pool of blood, which many fans believe was the result of childbirth, and that just before Lyanna died, Ned promised to protect the baby from Robert and the Lannisters, who were determined to kill all of the Targeryens so their reign could not be threatened. Well, tough shit! Because this is what’s meant to be:

If this fan theory is true, and Jon Snow is half Stark and half Targeryen, that would make him, technically, Daenerys’s, uh, nephew and second cousin (Rhaegar was her brother and first-cousin). And frankly, given that the Targeryen’s were all about keepin’ it in the family, I wouldn’t be surprised, or upset, to see Dani and Jon join forces in more ways than one down the line…
