“People say think globally, act locally. Well, if you think globally, it is overwhelming and you do not have enough energy left to act locally. Just act locally and see what a difference you can make. We are constantly told to buy more, buy, buy, buy! But do we really need it? It starts with trying to live a more sustainable life in the small decisions we make every day.”
Do you ever go about your day mulling over the massive scale of the problems in this world and fall into an existential crisis over how powerless you are in the grand scheme things, and then subsequently give up for the night on trying to accomplish any change and just lay in bed and eat pizza because screw it, you can never single-handedly create world peace? What’s that? Every day of your life, you say? Oh good, I thought it was just me! It seems that society is more hyper-aware than ever of the inequalities and cruelties in this world, but the vastness of it can be so discouraging. We could all do well to follow the advice that the amazing Jane Goodall gave National Geographic and just focus on improving what’s in front of us. It’s a start!
