The 424 Cleansing Method

It’s no secret that using the double cleansing method is one of the basic principles of a Korean skin care routine. However, Korean actress Bae Suzy takes the double cleanse a little further by using a 424 cleansing routine. It involves gently massaging a cleansing oil into your skin for four minutes, following up with a water-based cleanser for two minutes, and then finishing off with a four-minute water rinse. According to Suzy, this is the best way to make sure your skin is completely free of every trace of dirt, oil, and makeup. Meticulous cleansing is the key to keeping acne and clogged pores at bay, leaving you with smooth, flawless skin.

Staying Hydrated Really is Important

We’ve all been told time and time again that drinking a lot of water is important, but can it really make a difference in our skin? According to Song Ji-eun from the Korean girl band Secret, her commitment to drinking lots of water every day is how she keeps her skin so radiant and glowing. Ji-eun drinks around three or four liters of water each day to keep her skin hydrated, and she claims that she can see a difference in her skin and the way she feels if she doesn’t drink enough water.

Use Moisturizer Consistently

Most of us use moisturizer on our skin each day, but for top Korean actress Ha Ji-won, it has become an obsession. She claims that she never allows her skin to remain dry for any longer than three seconds! As soon as she finishes her cleansing routine, she applies a jelly pack immediately to get moisture back into the skin. Ji-won also recommends keeping a facial mist spray on hand to add moisture on the fly. She says consistent moisturization is her secret for that healthy glow.

Don’t Skip the Face Masks

You might think face masks are just a gimmick to get you to buy more products, but it turns out that they are actually an essential part of the Korean skin care routine. Korean skin care experts, Peach & Lily, recommend having a variety of sheet masks on hand to combat issues as they crop up. And, South Korean actress Song Hye-Kyo uses them religiously, sometimes making her own homemade recipes. Another Korean actress, Go Hyun-Jung uses a two-step masking routine to nourish her skin every week.

Actress Park Shin-Hye recommends applying a mask each day. She believes that daily masking is what keeps her skin from looking fatigued thanks to her hectic lifestyle. Sleep masks are also highly recommended by several celebrities for use at night in place of moisturizer. Whether you use a mask daily or just for special occasions, they’re packed with targeted active ingredients that allow you to really customize your routine.

Diet Really Does Make a Difference

You probably saw this coming, but most celebrities claim that eating a healthy diet deserves all the credit for their radiant, glowing skin. Eating plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables is at the top of everyone’s list, but they also had some other interesting tips as well. Minah from Girl’s Day recommends eating plenty of cooked tomatoes. B1A4’s Baro avoids all fried and oily foods to prevent breakouts. Sung-yeol from INFINITE swears by a lettuce concentrate for healthy skin.

Wash Your Hands Before You Wash Your Face

Most of us start out our skin care routines by washing our face, but Daesung from Big Bang says you should wash your hands before you wash your face. His skin care secret it to scrub his hands for a few minutes before he ever touches the skin on his face. He says this step is crucial for preventing the transfer of bacteria and impurities to his face.

More Isn’t Always Better

You might think you need to follow a 10 step Korean skin care routine to get beautiful skin like Song Ji-Hyo, but she says that’s simply not the case. Her approach to skin involves focusing on just the basics. She uses a minimalist routine religiously every morning and night, makes sure she gets plenty of sleep, and wears minimal makeup. Could achieving perfect skin really be that easy?

Or, Follow a More Complicated Routine?

On the other hand, Korean pop idol ASTRO Eunwoo attributes his flawless skin to his much more complicated skin care regimen. His routine involves cleanser, toner, a water-based hydration mist, a serum, and overnight moisturizing cream. He must be doing something right because his skin looks fantastic!

Treat Breakouts with Saltwater

Korean actress Go Hyung-Jung swears by treating breakouts with saltwater. She bathes pimples in lukewarm, salted water to get rid of bacteria and reduce redness and inflammation.

Oil is Your Friend

Most of us shy away from skin care products that contain oil. But when it comes to achieving supple, moisturized skin, Seohyun says oil is your friend. She uses facial oils to seal moisture into her skin and keep it glowing. One of her top skin care secrets is to apply a facial oil immediately after cleansing her skin. She recommends using a very thin layer of the oil so that you don’t clog up your pores.

Surprisingly, none of these tips are all that complicated! Add some of these steps to your skin care routine and let us know if you achieve celebrity worthy, glass smooth skin!
