Medical Tests Everyone Needs and Why Everyone Should Take Them

Ever since we’re little boys and girls, our parents would take us frequently for scheduled checkups at our doctor. But the checkups don’t stop when we get bigger. Quite the contrary, adults are more susceptive to diseases and problems than children. It is precisely the point why adults need to take various medical tests to make sure our health is not compromised.

In this article, we are going to tell you the medical tests every person needs, and why every person should take.

1. Skin Exam

Our schedules are packed full and it’s easily understood why your annual dermatologist checkup falls well behind the pecking order. Take the time out of your busy schedule to go see your dermatologist and examine the skin over your entire body. Your dermatologist will closely look for suspicious growths, moles, and lesions. However, the most frightening reason why you need a skin exam is the ever-growing fear of developing skin cancer. Skin cancer is frighteningly on the rise, especially in the case of women.

2. Pap Smear

Pap smear is yet another medical test that women must take at least once per year and every three years at most. During a pap smear test, your gynecologist uses a small brush and spatula to collect cervix cells for screening. This test was highly popular amongst women and was pivotal in lowering cervix cancer deaths by 70% between 1955 and 1992.

3. STD Test

STDs are highly dangerous and can cause a lot of health problems including HIV, Chlamydia, gonorrhea, etc. An STD test is something that every sexually active person should take at least once per year. If left unchecked, STDs can spread rapidly to your fallopian tubes, causing fertility-threatening pelvic inflammatory diseases. Every sexually active person under the age of 25, both men and women, should take an STD test to make sure that everything is in check. If you’re looking for a place to do an STD test, make sure to visit this website.

4. Mammogram

A mammogram is a type of medical testing that should be done every two women for women that are at risk of developing breast cancer. This usually occurs to women age 50 to 74, however, that might not always be the case. There aren’t many signs that show that breast cancer is developing, but most experts suggest the first mammogram to be done no later than when you’re 50. Some recommend during your mid-40s if your family has had previous members with breast cancer. The decision for mammogram testing should be closely made with your doctor. Every woman should take a mammogram testing due to the rise of breast cancer.

5. Cholesterol Check

A blood cholesterol check reports your total cholesterol, both bad (LDL) and good (HDL) cholesterol. It also reports on a type of fat in our blood called triglycerides. High levels of bad (LDL) cholesterol and triglycerides, can lead to a higher risk of developing heart diseases and strokes. A cholesterol test should be done every three to four years, with an exemption if your total LDL cholesterol levels and triglycerides are in a constant rise. If that is truly the case, then a cholesterol test should be done every few months until your situation stabilizes. Furthermore, frequent cholesterol testing’s should be done if members of your family share similar problems such as heart diseases or high cholesterol.
