When I first heard that people were taking photos of their dogs meeting Santa, I was like, “What? Really?” but then, mere minutes later, I was like, “Oh, actually, I totally get it.”
It’s easy to laugh at something like this because on one hand, it’s like, “You seriously brought your dog to the mall or a photo studio inside a Sears so they could get a photo taken with Santa? Why?” but on the other hand, the world is currently a bowl of every ingredient in the fridge mixed together by satan and honestly, what is 2016 anyway? So, I say, fuck it, fine. Yes, take that photo of your dog with Santa. Tell 12,000 of them even. You do you. Be well.
I know no one needed my permission to go do this with their dogs, nor do they need it, but just fyi, you will not find my judgement here. Nope. First off, I don’t know your deal! Maybe your dog is like Fiona Apple’s dog who was like her family and friends and entire world (poor Janet, poor Fiona, ugh so sad, I’m totally serious, it still upsets me). Or maybe they’re like your child. Or maybe they’re just your dog and you love them so much. And so you thought, like a lot of other people on the internet, that why not just take them down to the mall, pray they sit still long enough to get a really A+ photo of them with a man who you know with almost 99.9% certainty is not Santa.
Like, I don’t want to spoil Santa for you and your pets, but that is definitely a guy you don’t know getting paid a few dollars to dress up as Santa and take a photo with your dog. But, in the words of Sheryl Crow, if it makes you happy, it can’t be that bad. I’m pretty sure that song was supposed to be sarcastic, but I mean it, I do.

You know the dog is treated too much like a human when your dad takes him to meet Santa…???? pic.twitter.com/kdfp7nUFum

My favorite part about the last photo is how confused both the dog and Santa are, which is the most confused possible. The dog looks like it’s a dignified sort of confused, like it respects itself and is not totally OK with Santa touching its back, but whatever, fine, just take the photo. The Santa looks confused in a normal, guy dressed up like Santa and posing with a dog who looks like it’s on a table confused.
Anyway, live your life, guys.
