Usually what happens with a new member of the royal family is that the media and fans follow they and pay attention to what they are wearing. The British royal family has been setting fashion trends for decades now, while they also have plenty of rules they follow when picking their clothes. Most recently of course, Meghan Markle and her style have been the focus of attention.
While she is no stranger to showing some of her American acting roots, and the style that goes with it, fans have noticed that she has some of the same preferences and choices with the monarch herself, and her grandmother in law, Queen Elizabeth. If we take a closer look at her wardrobe and outfits Meghan Markle sported for various royal events, she is obviously not copying the style of Queen Elizabeth. They do however share a number of different styles preferences that make it look like that is the case.
Both the Queen and Meghan enjoy solid colors of fabrics, prefer s simple silhouette, and both tend to avoid prints. In general, Queen Elizabeth likes lighter colors than Meghan Markle does, although the new Duchess of Sussex wore a various number of vivid colors schemes, maybe as a nod to the style of her grandmother-in-law.
Both women understand the power of clothing
One more thing that Meghan Markle and the Queen share is the power of clothing and its effect. People, Stephen Jones, the favorite milliner of Meghan, said for People magazine:
“Almost like the Queen, she understands that in a way, what’s best is simplicity. There is a restraint and elegance to her, which is wonderful… There’s also an understanding about the power of clothing — she is an actress and she knows the meaning behind all of those clothes.”
Queen Elizabeth has a reputation regarding her outfits, and for very specific reasons. Her dresses are always in very bright color schemes, and she wears them whenever she attends royal events. That way, it is easy to pick her out in the crowd.
Meghan Markle sends messages with her clothing
For the wife of Prince Harry, dressing up is more than simply throwing something over just to cover herself up. Each piece of her clothing works to send a message to the people everywhere, the most favorite being support for the many causes that are the closest to her heart.
One example is the fact that her clothes are often from companies who only use cruelty-free processes, supporting the end to animal cruelty. Meghan also only wears vegan clothing. At one of the important events, she sported d a purse whose company donates a part of their earnings to help end mortality in children.
Sometimes, however, these messages she sends out are personal. For example, she wore a shirt that said “Husband” on it, shortly before she announced her engagement, along with Prince Harry. In addition, before they were expecting their first baby, she was seen in a dress named ‘Blessed.’
Her jewelry also sends messages
Her accessories also send out a message, not just her clothes. She mostly likes jewelry brands that utilize ethical methods of gem sourcing, confirming her care for the environment. On a number of occasions, she gave a nod to Princess Diana with some of her jewelry pieces.
Another nice thing Meghan did with her jewelry is the way she connected with her fans. She wore a macaroni necklace made for her by a six-year-old fan.
