The Marangu Route is one of several routes that approach Mount Kilimanjaro from the southeast. The Route takes 6 trekking days to complete, and in that time you will trek almost 70 km.

Arrival Day
Your journey begins with your arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport where you will pass through customs, and our team will transfer you to your accommodations at Ngare Sero Mountain Lodge. There you will have a briefing about the journey you’re about to take and equipment inspection.
Acclimatization Day
During your acclimatization at Arusha National Park, you will be accompanied by an armed park ranger as you take a look and adjust to the wonderful nature and wildlife.
1. TREK DAY ONE- Arusha National Park- Marangu Gate- Mandara Hut
The long 70 km journey starts now with you registering at Kilimanjaro National Park where you will be hiking through the amazing mountain forests. During your hiking, you will have the chance to encounter some beautiful flora like the endemic flower Impatiens Kilimanjaro, and various other species. Be on the lookout for the blue and colobus monkeys, which are unique to the forests of Kilimanjaro. After the 5 hour trek, you will arrive at Mandara Hut where you can rest and enjoy a nice meal over to the Maundi center.
2. TREK DAY TWO- Mandara Hut- Horombo Hut- Shira Camp
The second day of your journey will see you trek into the heartland, and as you climb higher into the moorland, you will encounter some unusual plant life like the Giant Groundsel and Giant Lobelias. Here you will also get a first time look at the two most famous peaks of Kilimanjaro, Mawenzi, and Kibo.
3. TREK DAY THREE- Acclimatization at Homobo Hut
You will spend another day at Horombo Hut at an altitude of 3720 m. A short hike to Zebra Rocks is scheduled for your 3rd day of the journey, where you can catch a better look of Mawenza and Kibo peak. You will spend the rest of the day resting at Horombo Hut and prepare for the next day trek to Kibo Hut.
4. TREK DAY FOUR- Horombo Hut- Kibo Hut
The 4th day of climbing Kilimanjaro will see you trek 3 miles from Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut, located off the massive Kibo peak. During this trek, you will journey into the high altitude desert that connects Mawenzi and Kibo. The trek will take 6 to 8 hours to complete, and upon arriving at Kibo Hut, you will prepare for the toughest day yet- the journey towards the summit.
5. TREK DAY FIVE- Kibo Hut- Uhuru Peak Summit- Horombo Hut
You start the day at the height of 4700 m, and you will trek 10 miles towards the summit located on Uhuru Peak. The day starts just before midnight at 11:30 pm, and you will need all your strength for the hard 10-mile journey in which you will spend up to 8 hours of trekking. You will reach Gilman’s Point which is located on an altitude of 5685 m where you will take a short break before pushing towards Stella Point and finally reaching Uhuru! Congratulations as you made the end of your journey and you managed to reach the highest point in all of Africa, the 4th highest mountain in the world! Take some time to admire the amazing view of the glaciers and craters, and to look back on your accomplishment. You will soon start to make your way back to Kibo Hut, just in time for breakfast and some much-needed rest. After that, you will make your way to Horombo Hut for a nice lunch where our staff will congratulate you on your extraordinary achievement.
6. TREK DAY SIX- Horombo Hut- Marangu Gate
What seemed like the highest point of Africa will now look far into the distance as you are currently located on altitudes of 3720 m. You start the day off with a nice cup of coffee and breakfast before our crew takes you back for lunch at the amazing Mandara Hut, followed by a short trek to Mandara Gate. Here you will be awarded your certificates of accomplishment- Successfully climbing Mount Kilimanjaro.
