What is cellulite?

Cellulite is the dimpled appearance on the skin caused as a result of pressure on the connective tissues by fat deposits. It mostly occurs on the thighs and buttocks but it can also affect other body parts.

Even though it can affect any body size and type, it is most common in women. It affects up to 90% of women and approximately 10% of men and this difference can be explained by the different distribution of fat, connective tissues, cells, and muscles between males and females.

It is also known as cottage cheese or orange-peel skin. It may be as a result of; aging, poor diet, toxins, genetic factors, and hormonal factors.

Is there a cure for cellulite?

Cellulite has no permanent cure. Several studies done to determine the available cellulite suggest that there lacks an absolute effective treatment for cellulite. However, there are certain types of supplements and diets that you can follow to help reduce the appearance of cellulite. Here they are:

#1. Collagen and Gelatin

Collagen has many health benefits for your skin. Consuming more gelatin and collagen-rich foods and supplements increases the proline and glycine contents in the body. These two amino acids strengthen and contribute to a healthier skin hence may play a role in the reduction of cellulite.

Results from a study conducted on 105 women who had moderate cellulite proved collagens efficacy in the reduction of cellulite.

Bone broth, organ meats, and grass-fed beef are some of the common sources of collagen. If you prefer a more convenient way to increase more collagen into your diet, the powered collagen might be a great option for you. Here’s a list of collagen brands you can check!

#2. Conjugated Lenoic Acid (CLA)

Grass-fed animal products are rich in Lenoic acid, which is a natural formed trans-fat. According to research, Lenoic acid can effectively ameliorate cellulite as well as boost metabolism.

Another studythat had 60 female volunteers proved the efficacy of an anticellulite pill that contained Lenoic acid in the reduction of cellulite. The results were positive for 75% of the women after treatment for 60 days.

#3. Low-carb Anti-inflammatory Diet

A low-carb diet packed with anti-inflammatory compounds as well as fats is excellent for cellulite control. Foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids like nuts, salmon or flax seed oil and other healthy fat-rich foods impact greatly on the reduction of cellulite.

#4. Polyphenol-rich Diet

A studythat used 29 women who had grade 2 cellulite as subjects supplemented them with organic chokeberry juice rich in polyphenol. After 45 days, the study concluded that the organic chokeberry juice could have positive effects on cellulite.

#5. Estrogen Detoxifying Supplements

Cellulite caused by estrogen dominance in the body can be reduced through supplements aimed at detoxing the estrogen contents.

A study established the efficacy of diet, exercise and lower body pressure intervention on the reduction of cellulite after dividing 86 women into four groups. The first group was the control group, the second was assigned diet only, the third was assigned diet and exercise while the fourth was assigned diet, exercise, and lower body pressure intervention. The women from the fourth group had more positive results than the rest.
