Top 7 Women Hunting Gear in 2022

by Petar Mikonoss February 4, 2020
by Petar Mikonoss February 4, 2020

The world of hunting isn’t exclusive for men, but you could say that the gear is “geared” towards them.

Women make pretty good hunters, despite everyone saying otherwise. But the clear and obvious issue of having most of the gear designed for men is still plaguing modern-day female hunters.

Hunting gear should be sturdy enough to give you basic protection against animals and the elements. Men have a hard time feeling comfortable in them, so imagine how uncomfortable women feel. The hip area, the wrist areas, the waistbands, the shoulder area, etc; women aren’t built like men.

This, naturally, called for professional hunting gear for women to be made. And luckily for you, we have compiled a list of the top X hunting gear designed solely for women. So, without further ado, sit back and let’s start.

Contents

  • 1. Bib & Jacket
  • 2. Hunting Pack
  • 3. Binoculars
  • 4. Upland Apparel
  • 5. Boots
  • 6. Facemask
  • 7. Compound Bow

1. Bib & Jacket

When it comes to the overall appearance of a hunter, a bib & jacket are two separate gears that go along interchangeably.

Both offer unprecedented protection from the elements, and both should be made durable enough to withstand the effects of the elements and any potential charging animal.

The perfect bib & jacket has to be made from specific textiles that make all that a possibility and have certain features that allow being worn separately.

Chances are, a gal will buy a bib & jacket in a combination, just make sure that it’s designed for a woman. Men’s hunting clothing won’t accommodate a woman hunter. This is because of our different body structures. Men have broader shoulders, different hips, and the waistbands are almost entirely different. Men’s hunting clothes are designed to accommodate those areas, and such clothing will not fit a female hunter.

2. Hunting Pack

No hunter is safe without his equipment. But how would one wear it all? Simply carrying in your arms isn’t enough, so a hunting pack is the piece of gear that every hunter, regardless of gender, needs.

Hunting packs can also be made to accommodate women. We mentioned basic physiological differences between both, so a hunting pack designed for females should have one or two extra features.

First off, the subject of comfortability should never be discussed; the best pack should be comfortable for the wearer. Secondly, there should be a feature that allows weight distribution, such as a removable waist belt and a sternum strap that can be fully adjustable.

This piece of gear should also be quite heavy as to not feel light. A hunter needs to feel the hunting pack on his shoulders. Most importantly, it should be big enough to accommodate at least 2,050 cubic inches of space.

3. Binoculars

Onto more specific pieces of gear on our list, a binocular is an indispensable piece of gear that every hunter requires. When it comes to binoculars, you have basic ones and hunting ones.

Out of the two, a gal needs the latter but what’s the difference between both?

Well, features such as magnification, weight, FOV (field of view), eye relief, lens diameter, etc, are all features that make good hunting binocular.

Furthermore, it should come in a predominantly greener color to further accommodate your camo clothing. A hunter has to be canceled at all times to avoid alerting his prey, and even the smallest of details can make a lot of difference.

As a general buying guide, we highly recommend you read this review from Target Frog.

4. Upland Apparel

Upland will come in handy in a number of situations. You don’t want to be sweating unnecessarily when doing business on hotter days, but you also don’t want to be left exposed to the elements.

So, that why every hunter needs to own a piece of upland. The perfect piece should be made out of 100% moisture-absorbing polyester that can also offer up to 40+ UPF UV protection.

Also, thumb holes are recommended to keep the gear tightly close. When buying upland tops, make sure to also enquire about pants. A girl could use a pair when needing to go through thick bushes. Same as the top, the pants should allow at least basic wind protection and they should have the option of being zipped.

5. Boots

No one goes hunting without a good pair of boots. An absolute necessity when it comes to this hobby, boots are an underappreciated piece of gear that offers more protection than you think.

Boots are a necessity because our feet are what carry us. If we wear shoes or boots not designed for the hobby, then the terrain can take its toll on our feet.

But what should the best hunting boots look like? Well, looks are very subjective. While most hunters do prefer camo boots, it’s the features and functionality that make the boots what they are. So a better question would be, what features should a pair have?

For starters, they should be comfortable, so always opt for memory foam to keep the pressure off during your sessions and travels. Secondly, we can get stuck in our boots for a very long time, so the pair should have some kind of scent-control.

Thirdly, they have to offer resistance to any type of terrain, so they should be waterproof, have quality and durable soles, and be made from a sturdy piece of material that won’t tear that easily.

6. Facemask

When it comes to prepping yourself for the ultimate hunting session, a full cover body will help a gal catch her pray better. If you are a lady that enjoys good deer hunting with a crossbow, find out here which piece of gear is essential for you.

To finish on our list, we’ve decided to include a facemask due to multiple reasons.

Facemasks will not only keep you warm at all times, but it will protect you from insects and pests. Mosquitoes, flies, chiggers, and all sorts of small pests will leave you alone once they notice they can’t reach your skin.

The optimal facemask should move along with your face. So, if you happen to be turning on either side, the facemask should move with you. This is all down to the fabric of the product, and the fabric should have an anti-moisture feature to keep your face nice and dry.

7. Compound Bow

Over the last years, more and more women pick up a bow to become part of the evergrowing archery community. A women´s compound bow is really not that much different from what men would prefer:
Accuracy, enough power to take down not only a small game but also the ability to go after deer or even elk.
To take into account the different needs in regards to draw weight and draw length, the ideal women’s bow should be highly adjustable.  A smooth draw cycle, solid back wall, and a let-off of something like 80% upwards will add to the perfect bow.
