So did anything happens between the future king and the First Daughter? Continue reading and find out this and Prince Charles’ rich dating history.
Tricia Nixon and Prince Charles
Prince Charles started his royal tour of the United States in 1970 when he was only 21-years-old. While there he met the ex-United States president, Richard Nixon, who had his daughter with him at the time and introduced her to Prince Charles. During all that Prince Charles spent a quite a bit of time with Tricia, but the question remains, were they in a relationship? Not really, even though President Nixon tried his hardest to set the two up.
It was reported that Richard Nixon made a lot of quite obvious attempts to set the two of them up during the whole tour in the United States. For instance, the seating plans always had Tricia and Charles sitting next to each other and the program dictated they spend all their time together, there were even times when the two would be left alone in some parts of the White House. A royal biographer, Anthony Holden, told Express. But truth be told Prince Charles just wasn’t interested, he said that came out “distinctly annoyed” and found Tricia Nixon “plastic and artificial.”
The dating history of Prince Charles
Everyone knows Prince Charles ended up with Princess Diana, but who did he date before that? Well it seems like the Prince of Wales had several girlfriends leading up to Princess Diana. Here’s what we know about those girlfriends.
Starting with Lucia Santa Cruz who’s the daughter of the Chilean ambassador. She was Prince Charles’ first girlfriend but there were many more lined up after here. The two of them met at Trinity College in Cambridge and were together for two years, from 1968 to 1970. Even after their breakup they remained friends since she was invited to his and Camillas’s wedding.
Apparently Prince Charles used to be quite the ladies’ man in his younger days. He used to date actress Susan George and Sheila who was a singer of Three Degrees. Another woman he used to date was Laura Jo Watkins, the daughter of United States admiral, he met her while he was serving in the Royal Navy.
Another woman he met and dated was Janet Jenkins whom he met while serving on HMS Bonnington. Jenkins worked as a receptionist at the British Consulate in Montreal at the time. It is thought that she stayed on as his secret lover all throughout the 1970s and even into his marriage to Princess Diana.
Since Prince Charles was the future king he also set his eyes on some women from upper-class families. He dated Sibylla Dorman who was the daughter of the governor of Malta, another one is Lady Jane Grosvenor who’s the daughter of the Duke of Westminster. Some other women who he liked were Camilla Fane and Lady Henrietta Fitzroy, the first one being the Earl of Westmorland’s daughter and second the Duke of Grafton’s daughter. A fact which not many people know is that he even dated Princess Diana’s sister, Lady Sarah. Of course, everyone knows about Camilla Parker, but I bet not many people know that the person who introduced the two was his ex-girlfriend, Lucia Santa Cruz.
At what time did Princess Diana and Prince Charles start dating?
The two of them met in 1977 and Princess Diana was only 16-years-old at the time. They started dating a couple of years later, in 1980. Prince Charles proposed to then Lady Diana in February 1981 and they got married only a couple of months later in July 1981.
