Face masks are hot. They’re everywhere right now and keep getting more popular. The experience and the results of a face mask are unique compared to any other skincare product. Facial masks are a beauty staple across the world, but people don’t love them only because they use them every day. The fact is that if you use your face mask on a daily or weekly basis – depending on the type of mask, your skin will be radiant and smooth. However, to truly get the greatest benefit out of your mask, you have to know what to use after your face mask.

    • Step 2 – Pat dry
    • Step 3 – Wait.
    • Step 4 – Aftermask.

After the face mask has been applied, what’s next?

We assume that you have already applied mud mask, peel mask, moisturizing face mask or sheet mask – any of this works well. When the time comes to rinse it off, this is where some people make mistakes. However, with the short guide below, you know what are the proper steps to take after your mask has been against your face for some time.

Step 1 – Rinse your face

First of all, you need to rinse off your face with preferably cold water. Rinse of your face mask toughly and make sure there is nothing left. Make sure that no sign of mask is left anywhere on your face. Are you having difficulties to remove the mask completely? Here’s a tip for you: Use warm water and then apply the cold water – it will be taken off more easily.

Why do we recommend cold water? Unlike warm or hot water, the cold water is going to shut down all your pores.

Step 2 – Pat dry

It is important how you dry your face after you washed it off. Don’t just rub it with your towel. You need a clean towel and you have to pat it gently without any sudden moves. Always use a clean towel, and I believe it goes without saying that you should have a separate towel for your face specifically.

Step 3 – Wait.

This is quite an important step many people forget: Wait approximately 2 minutes before you move on to the next step because you are not finished yet. This gives your skin the time to adapt. And it is important not to shock our skin, otherwise, we will not get the effect we want.

Step 4 – Aftermask.

The last step is probably the #1 mistake you are making after you have used your face mask. Most people use a moisturizer and this can do more harm than good!

Use a skincare product specially designed for after a face mask. There are plenty of products to choose from and one is the Aftermask Vitamin Mask from the Amsterdam-based skincare company Mudmusky. Do NOT use a heavy moisturizer.
