Why You Should Find the Best Hamster Bedding?

Every animal has to sleep and that’s no different with hamsters. In the wilderness, hamsters like to eighter burrow underground or build nests as their sleeping beds, and the type of nest depends on the type of hamster. Different hamsters use different materials for their nests, and that solely depends on the type of environment they’re in. For an example, Russian hamsters live on dry grass plains, so they make their nests out of grass, however, Syrian hamsters live in hot environments so they dig underground and use that as a sleeping nest.

When having a hamster as a pet, you need to allow it to feel as if it is in its natural environment. That will keep the hamster healthier and happier and will subsequently increase the lifespan of your hamster. You need to provide your hamster with the necessary materials so that he can create his own bed from them. In this article, we are going to discuss why and how you should find the best hamster bedding.

What materials you shouldn’t use as hamster bedding?

Many pet shops lack the necessary knowledge and often sell products that they deem worthy for your pet hamster; however, that is not the case.

Pet shops will often sell pine and cedar wood shavings as hamster bedding, but actually, this is a pretty bad choice of hamster bedding considering that pine and cedar wood shavings can cause injuries to your pet. Pet stores also sell fluffy beddings, calling them the best hamster bedding money can buy. But these are made from artificial fibers that will be hard to digest if your hamster tries to eat it. Furthermore, they are soft and your pet could tangle its arm or leg in it.

Other materials sold as hamster bedding that you should avoid are:

•    Cat Litter

•    Corn Cob

•    Newspaper

•    Any Scented Bedding

What are the best materials for the best hamster bedding?

We’ve listed all the materials that should not be used as bedding for your hamster, now let’s take a look about what materials you should use.

Materials you should use as hamster bedding

1.    Carefresh Ultra

Made from cellulose fibers, carefresh ultra contains no inks, dyes, or any scented chemicals, to top it all up, it’s very soft but not in the same way as fluffy bedding. Carefresh ultra also can soak up fluids three times its weight, meaning that your hamster’s cage will remain clean and less smelly.

With such great benefits, carefresh ultra doesn’t come cheap and is slightly expensive than the other options on our list.

2.    Carefresh Colors

Carefresh colors are the same as carefresh ultra and the only difference is that the former comes in pink, blue, and multicolored confetti. But we talked before about dyes and inks and how you shouldn’t buy any bedding containing them. Well, have no fear as carefresh colors are made out of pet-safe dye that will not harm your pet hamster in any way possible.

3.    Kaytee Clean and Cozy

Our third and final hamster bedding is the Kaytee Clean and Cozy which is made out of plant-based paper fibers. These fibers are extremely absorbent and 100% dust free as well as being soft.  This type of hamster bedding serves as a great alternative to carefresh colors and ultra, however, make sure to avoid the scented version.
