Your bedroom is your personal haven. It is your personal space and how it looks reflect your personality, style, and mood. It’s your most intimate area where you should feel the most comfortable. The bedroom is also the first thing you see once you wake up. That means that your room will affect your mood. If it’s aesthetically pleasing then you can wake up with a good mood and a positive attitude. On the other hand, it would bring in a negative attitude if your room is messy and disorganised. You do not want to wake up in a room that looks like a garbage dump, do you?

Of course, you would want to have a great-looking room. However, hiring a personal interior designer may be way too much unless you have the dough to pay for one. For us working professionals who are just starting in our respective fields, the interior design of our room is probably the last item on our list of things to spend on. More important expenditures have to come first like basic necessities such as rent, food and transportation.

That is why we’ve created a list of DIY tips that will help improve your room’s aesthetic without burning a hole in your wallet. These tips also take into consideration that you’re a busy professional that has almost little to no time and energy for personal renovations.

  • 3. Add A Window Treatment or Plant
  • 4. Add A Mirror
  • 5. Declutter

1. Make Your Bed

It may sound way too simple but remember that in interior design and room aesthetic, it’s the small things that matter. Make it a habit to start your day by making your bed. Studies have actually proven that this first accomplished task leads to a positive attitude that may carry on for the rest of your day.

Another important thing about making your bed is that it greatly improves the room’s aesthetic. The bed is the center of the room and as such it will determine the state of it. If the rest of your room is clean but your bed is not, then that will set the mood of it. Adding a headboard will also help center the attention to your bed.

2. Clean Up After You’re Done With An Activity

This is often one thing that we forget to do. Because it’s our room, we often feel that we don’t have to clean up as much. This means that after an activity, we just let things be, relying on that someday we will have the energy and the time to do a one-time cleanup. Unfortunately, this is not the case and the clutter just keeps piling up until one day you realise that your room is just basically a garbage dump.

Take a few minutes to put your clothes away, clean up your toys or any accessories that you’ve used. Wipe off the counter/vanity tables. Keep some wipes available in your room so you don’t feel lazy to do it. If you’re using makeup, make sure that all your brushes, sponges, etc are in one place and that they are easy to clean up. Put them all back in place once you’re done using them. This is also for hygienic purposes. Again, small things like this will matter in the long run.

3. Add A Window Treatment or Plant

Letting fresh air in can help make your room feel more open and inviting. Save on custom roman shades the top down bottom up option comes in very handy as you can let light and air in from the top or the bottom while keeping your privacy. Having a plant or two in your room will not only add a pop of green in your room but has also been proven to remove toxins from the air, giving you a healthier air to breathe in. A well taken care of plant also proves to visitors that you are a responsible human being as you’re able to care for a living organism.

4. Add A Mirror

If you have a small room, adding a mirror would definitely help as a mirror is considered as space-adding furniture. This means that despite your room lacking in space, it will look as if it is not.

5. Declutter

Speaking of small rooms, one thing you definitely have to do if you want to improve your room’s aesthetics is to declutter. Look around your room and determine which items you can do without. Our house is filled with a lot of clutter. These are items that have no essential value to your daily life but we keep them either for sentimental value, monetary or that we foresee a great need for it in the future.

This is where self-storage facilities will be useful. You can safely store your items elsewhere so they do not take up any valuable space in your rooms. One of the best things about storage units is that you can access your unit any time you want. That means that should you need your item at an ungodly hour, you can still get them.
