Now, when we think about polluted air most of us have outdoor air in mind that is affected by smog, factory chemicals released in the air, and the popular chemtrails. Once the winter time comes we seal our house completely, closing all the windows and doors, and enjoying the cozy atmosphere provided by an air conditioner and heaters. On the other hand, it doesn’t come to our mind that indoor air can affect us as well and that it might be the exact reason why we have certain allergies or feel tired and lazy.

Indoor air, especially when it is warm inside, is known to carry a lot of irritants and allergens ranging from dander, and dust mites, to mold spores and certain pollutants. Due to the fact that we closed all the windows and doors, these don’t have where to escape and become a potentially harmful air compounds causing allergies and potentially worsening asthma in predisposed patients. But, how to cope with it you might ask – it is cold outside and known wants to let chilly and fresh air in, right? Well, there are a few tips on how you can improve air quality even from the safety of your cozy environment. Let’s take a look.

1. First and foremost, keep your house clean. You should use a vacuum cleaner on daily basis, sucking chemicals and allergens that know to get stuck in walls, carpets, furniture, and Don’t get obsessed with it but a 15-minute cleaning will be of great benefit. Along with that, once you are done vacuuming use micro-fiber mops to get rid of any dust that is left, and don’t forget to keep the door mats outside – this way you will prevent pesticides and dust entering your home with every new guest stepping in.

2. While certain indoor plants may improve air quality due to the oxygen they produce it might be better keeping them out if you are allergen-sensitive. The thing is, indoor plants can produce mold and reduce mold spores in the air which can in terms cause breathing difficulties and further problems.

3. Along with that, if it is chilly outside chances are you are using an air heating system that can cause dust and irritants to circulate through the air. That is why you should be changing the filters on regular basis, and if possible invest in electrostatic filters that will trap all the allergens and irritants in not letting them escape and cause further trouble.

4. One of the best ways to control and keep high-quality indoor air is through investing in an air purifier. Probably the best air purifier is the ionic type as it traps dust, mold spores, and airborne irritants and ensures the proper levels of humidity as well. On the other hand, you might want to invest in a dehumidifier in certain areas where mold is likely to grow such as a basement, bathroom, and even kitchen.

5. Last but not least you should open your windows and let fresh air circulate for at least 5-10 minutes. You will not catch a cold from that cold and fresh air entering your home will, on the other hand, it will be of huge benefits as the air contaminants will have where to exit.

Summary

Indoor air quality might even be more important than the outdoor one – during the colder months you are spending more time in your house and are at a greater risk of being affected by airborne irritants and allergens. Following the above-mentioned tips, you are sure to prevent further problems and keep your indoor air fresh and healthy!
