It has not even been a year since they got married and Meghan Markle and Prince Harry already own a quite a lot of property. And now another estate is added to their lineup, a new home in Windsor. But just last summer they got a Windsor Estate, Adelaide Cottage, as a wedding gift from Queen Elizabeth.
The royal couple’s Windsor Estate homes
With all the excitement going on around the future family home of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, Frogmore Cottage, we almost missed the fact they also have access to another estate not that far from their new home. Does the royal couple own two homes on the same big estate? Looks like it.
After their aristocratic wedding, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry supposedly got an amazing wedding gift from the Queen herself. The Duchess and Duke of Sussex received the key to Adelaide Cottage, which is a historic Grade II listing on the Windsor Estate grounds. As the reports say Meghan Markle and Prince Harry had planned to move into their vacation home just after Queen Elizabeth’s amazing gift.
But unexpectedly, last autumn it was announced that the royal couple had decided to move out of the Kensington Palace but not move into their vacation home but into another property on the Windsor Estate. Since that time the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been quite busy renovating Frogmore Cottage, which is a mansion with 10 rooms and used to be used for housing of the staff. However, we still don’t know what their plans are for Adelaide Cottage, or if it’s even still their property.
Just like almost every royal residence, Adelaide Cottage is filled with interesting history. In the beginning the Windsor Estate home was used Queen Adelaide’s, King Williams IV’s wife, private retreat and it entails part of John Nash’s Royal Lodge. The architect that was heading the project back then and designed the garden was Jeffry Wyatville.
The most alluring feature of the home is probably its location. It is located just across the way from Frogmore House, which is the place where Meghan Markle and Prince Harry held their wedding reception last year. But, that’s not actually what makes it good, the Windsor home is a perfect home for someone who wants to escape city life and sits on the private 655-acre Royal Park, which is filled and surrounded by a small forest you could say.
The interior of Frogmore Cottage
Frogmore Cottage is an opportunity for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to make a house their own and completely renovate it to their own liking. Since it doesn’t share the historic feeling Adelaide Cottage has and was used for staff housing in the past, the royal couple don’t feel as much pressure to maintain some features like the flooring or the fireplace, but we’re sue that Meghan Markle is someone who can appreciate the look of an original fireplace.
Initially, Frogmore Cottage was split into five different units but recently it has been under work so it can be ready for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle just before the due date of their baby. When it’s ready it will have 10 rooms which includes a nursery, a yoga studio and a guest room just for Meghan Markle’s mother, Doria Ragland. Just like Adelaide Cottage it features a lot of room for the kid to play outside and all the privacy you can imagine for the perfect home to grow up in.
