Just as we humans need an optimum temperature to survive, so do fish! Of course, we can complain about it being too hot or cold, whereas they are just left having to deal with it. Let’s familiarize ourselves with how to maintain the temperature in fish tanks and spare them the suffering, what say?

By far, the best way to maintain the temperature in fish tanks. There are various types of heaters available, and it’s in your (and your fish’s) best interest to find out the best one for your aquarium. With technology being as it is, you’ll find newer products on the market every day, however, there are currently four types of heaters:

1. Submersible Heater

The more expensive models of heaters, however, as the name says, they can be kept entirely underwater. Harder materials last longer, yet for appearances, some made of glass. Depending on the type of fish you have in your aquarium, you can find the best one for you. It’s important to remember that since they remain underwater, you will not have any heat wasted!

2. Immersible Heater

Contrary to the first heater, these cannot be fully submerged in water, and the upper half will always have to remain above water level. However, you’ll also find that these are the most common types of heaters found, due to how much cheaper they are. Caution does entail, however, since they will get damaged and stop working if they sink.

3. Filter Heater

It’s one of the new products on the market, and for a good reason. Despite being a bit hefty prices, all they require is a heating block inside the filter to keep them running, allowing the water to be heated and filtered at the same time. You don’t end up requiring anything extra to keep it running, nor do you need more energy. So, in the long run, these heaters can be the best option!

4. Substrate Heater

These are the type of heaters you’ll want if you’re very keen on aquascaping and keeping a beautiful aquarium! This heater will be hidden under the substrate, and you’ll never be able to see it. Not to mention, your plants will have better growth because of it, and your fish will never have a problem with it. However, if your aquarium set up, it will be a bit issue to get in place, as you’ll have to remove everything from the inside. In spite of the problems, price-wise, with all the perks it provides, it’s pretty affordable!

Heaters are an essential feature for any fish tank, and can determine the health of your fish! So, if you’re feeling underprepared, visit this site to learn more!

Heaters are electrical appliances and can short out at any given time. So, with a thermometer inside the tank, you can always be sure to know what temperature your tank is at.

What Temperature?

Now it goes without saying that knowing the temperature is very important when keeping fish alive. However, it’s not as simple as knowing only one number; various types of fish thrive in different temperatures.

Freshwater Fish

There is a specific temperature that is viable for all types of freshwater fish, which is 72-82 degrees Fahrenheit, however, it’s best to do more research. On what? Well, some fish such as goldfish prefer colder waters. As such, other fish might require warmer waters. Depending on the type of fish you’re looking to get, research on them to find their ideal temperature.

Saltwater Fish

Saltwater is only in seas and oceans, so you’re looking at a slightly higher temperature than you would for freshwater fish. So, if you’re looking for a middle ground, it’ll be around 79 degrees Fahrenheit. However, depending on which part of the world your fish originates from, you’re better off researching to find their ideal temperature.

Reefs

Reefs are also found in saltwater, meaning way out in the abyss of seas and oceans. So, you ought to be keen on remembering that when you’re setting up a tank for them. In such cases, you should keep the temperatures between 75-79 degrees Fahrenheit. Even though most natural coral reefs have a temperature of 82-84 degrees Fahrenheit, you should look to avoid that.

With global warming and pollution in the seas and oceans, more and more coral reefs are dying, so aiming to go a little cooler than nature is the best for these reefs. Visit FishLab.com for more best ways to keep your fish happy, naturally

Plants or Foliage

Having plants or foliage doesn’t make choosing the temperature a hard thing to do. These usually give you a wide range of temperatures to choose from. It can go from 70 to 80 degrees Fahrenheit. However, if you have a plant that might require special attention, it’s best to do research on it, and follow that bit of instruction. Additionally, you can find more information about the aquariums on Aquarium Source.

If you’re looking for an in-depth gander on temperatures for fish and plants, it never hurts to keep researching!

No matter which fish you’re keeping or whatever plants you’re growing, keeping the optimal level of temperature is what’s always important. So, you should always ensure you have the best measures in place for temperature. And no matter what, it’s still best to do your research on any specific plant, fish, or coral!
