Many people fall sick regularly for failing to clean major day-to-day utilities. With busy schedules and different lifestyles, we often forget to clean items like the water dispenser, which do fall into our daily activities.

Water dispensers play an essential role in our homes, workspaces, hospitals, restaurants, and many other places. Water dispensers help us get clean water for drinking no matter where we are. This is why we should make efforts in cleaning it regularly. Experts recommend one to clean the water cooler with every bottle change. This will reduce the chances of you forgetting. However, you can set a particular time, maybe after every week, or twice a month, depending on your availability.

Cleaning a water dispenser is quick, easy, and requires the following steps:

Contents

  • Preparing the solution
  • Unplugging the cooler
  • Inner surfaces
  • Drip tray
  • New bottle
  • Regular maintenance

Preparing the solution

The first step into cleaning your water cooler is choosing which solution to use, then making it. There are two types of solutions – the bleach solution and the vinegar solution.  Both solutions will produce effective results.

Unplugging the cooler

Safety demands that when washing any electronic device, you need to unplug it from the socket. You don’t want to be electrocuted while washing the cooler. After disconnecting, you’ll need to remove the water bottle.

Inner surfaces

Using the solution and a sponge, you can clean the inner surfaces of the cooler. Wipe thoroughly to make sure all the dirt is washed out. Repeat the process a few times. Once you’re done, take a glass of the solution and pour it in the cooler. Drain the water with the tap or taps in a different container. Rinse out the remaining solution with clean water.

Drip tray

Though water isn’t taken from the drip tray, it’s also essential to clean it. Generally, the tray collects water and dust particles. You’ll need to remove the tray and scrub it well using a brush, or any other tool that will remove off the dirt. Once you’re done, rinse with clean water and return the drip tray to the cooler. After cleaning, you’ll have to plug in the cooler for about 30 minutes before using it.

New bottle

Before adding a new water bottle, it’s essential to wash your hands. You’re also required to dry off the bottle using a clean, dry cloth. In case the bottle has been in storage for quite some time, you’ll need to wipe the bottle to avoid contaminating the cooler.

Regular maintenance

To make sure your water dispenser is in order, you have to check a few things regularly. In addition to regular cleaning, you’ll have to check the wire grid across the back of the cooler for dust build-up and lint. You can clean this area using a brush or a vacuum. It’s also important to unplug your water dispenser every time it’s out of the water.

Generally, this method will work for most water dispensers. However, if your water dispenser is a little different, you’ll need to do more research. In case you need a new water dispenser, you can find charts with a comparison of the best products in the market in places like homefixworld.com.
