Is CBD Oil Safe or Are The Fears Founded?

by Petar Mikonoss February 22, 2019

Anxiety isn’t an easy thing to tackle, especially when there’s plenty of room for it. No reassurances or medical professionals who would testify to the success or failure of a new treatment puts a dent into the already shaky reputation of CBD oil. Furthermore, trying out new things comes with a healthy dose of fear and anticipation. That’s especially true for products that might be considered as “alternative.”

However, that doesn’t mean that the answer to the question – is CBD oil safe? – doesn’t exist. The only proper way to deal with the anxiety that comes with not knowing something is to attack it with information.

Is CBD oil safe for human use?

There are a few organizations that have the utmost authority when it comes to health and medicine. One of them is the WHO — The World Health Organization. Those who are on the fence about whether such oils should be used or not will be happy to hear that the WHO classifies this oil as “generally well tolerated with a good safety profile.”

The side effects of CBD — a common occurrence or an overblown non-issue?

CBD has no negative side effects on the human body. Reported side effects are often a result of mixing CBD oils with other medications, according to the WHO assessment. What’s more, some relevant studies claim that even if we take CBD in large quantities, we won’t experience any negative repercussions.

However, each body is different, and each immune system reacts differently to anything we take. CBD is no different. Any reported side effects are not common or concerning — they are usually user-specific.

The worry of addiction — getting legally high?

People worry about getting addicted to CBD oil because they often confuse it with illegal substances. However, the truth is — there’s no chance of developing an addictive dependence on CBD oil. What’s more, CBD oil can be beneficial in the process of shaking off such an addiction.

CBD oil is derived from cannabis, which is why some people might think it can get them high. Yet, the truth is that CBD has very low levels of THC, the substance that produces the “high” effect. Unlike cannabis products with high levels of this substance, CBD cannot produce the same effect, due to the low psychoactive cannabinoid levels.

CBD can have a relaxing effect on the body and the nervous system. However, that is not the same as “getting high.” Only the products that have a 1:1 THC-to-CBD ratio can produce a psychoactive effect. However, high-quality CBD oils have only 0.3% of THC or less.

What’s the bottom line? Is CBD oil safe or not?

Overall, CBD is very safe for human use. Not only do health organizations claim so, but users also have a lot to say about it. Let’s not forget — firsthand experience is always a good judge of effectiveness.

CBD oil can, in words of experienced and satisfied users, complement or substitute various treatments used to treat conditions and illnesses like cancer, anxiety, physical pain, etc. WHO also does not condemn the use of CBD oils, and in fact, describes recreational use as safe. However, keep in mind that not all CBD products have the same safety levels.

Products that include other substances and ingredients do not have the same effect as CBD oil, and therefore, we cannot say that their safety levels are as reassuring as with CBD oils.

Furthermore, some users might be sensitive to even the lowest levels of THC. The higher the THC levels, the bigger the possibility of side effects like paranoia, dry mouth, and eyes, or anxiety — all commonly associated with cannabinoid products.

Hopefully, this article has shed some light on the safety of CBD oil. It is an excellent alternative treatment and is completely safe, as verified by many users and various health organizations.
