The Duchess of Sussex wrote a letter to her father, Thomas Markle who she had a rift with. On 9 February, the 5-page letter was published. The Duchess poured her feelings about the confusion between them. The letter was originally written in August, three months after her wedding with Prince Harry. She began the letter with words: “Daddy, It is with a heavy heart I write this, not understanding why you have chosen to take this path, turning a blind eye to the pain you’re causing.”
Thomas, a 74 years old former lightning director didn’t attend his daughter’s wedding after a heart attack that happened shortly after his staged paparazzi scandal in which Meghan’s half-sister Samantha was also involved.

Meghan also added how his actions had broken her heart, not only because of the pain he caused but because of his choice not to tell them the truth which she will never understand. The letter revealed that Thomas never called her to say that he isn’t coming to the wedding, contrasting with things he told the press. Her father, who lives in Mexico, told the Mail that he never wanted to make the note public due to respect for Meghan, but had to change his mind because many false reports appeared. Later he said that he felt devastated after reading his daughter’s letter. He didn’t expect to feel this way.

Meghan continued the letter saying she never received a phone call about her father being hospitalized. “I have only always loved, protected, and defended you, offering whatever financial support I could, worrying about your health… and always asking how could I help, “ the Duchess wrote. It was terrifying when she found out about his heart attack from a tabloid. Then she called, texted, and even sent someone to his home, but he stopped answering her and talked only to the tabloids. However, he denied it, and added that “Harry and Meg knew what was going on.” Even though Meghan asked him to, he didn’t stop talking to the media. Thomas even talked about Harry, who he never met and compared the royal family with a cult. These attacks were the most painful for his daughter. In the end, she asked him to stop lying and creating so much pain. The only thing she wants is the chance to live their lives in peace, without him exploiting their relationship.
Thomas asked for Meghan’s forgiveness and said that he had made a big mistake.
