Make sure you rest after Lasik surgery
According to dellorusso.com, after you’ve had Lasik eye surgery you will need to allow your body and eyes time to rest. Straight after having the surgery, you will be taken to a rest area where you will be able to relax. Although the cornea does start to heal very quickly after having surgery, you do need to make sure that you still have adequate rest. You will need to ask somebody to take you home, as you will not be able to drive after the treatment.
Stick to what your doctor advises
If your doctor has given you a particular instruction, you need to make sure that you follow it e.g. to use eye drops. It is essential that you follow whatever advice your doctor gives you.
Avoid driving
After Lasik, you are not allowed to drive and will need someone to take you home from the hospital. The reason for this is simply because the anaesthetic drops that are placed in the eye have a mild sedative effect. A couple of days after having Lasik surgery you will need to attend a follow-up appointment. At this appointment, your doctor will be able to tell you if you are now able to drive.
Avoid rubbing your eyes
It is very tempting to rub your eyes as you may experience a tingling sensation. However, you need to avoid rubbing, itching or scratching the eye whilst it is healing. You may be provided with some eye drops, which can help the eye to feel more comfortable.
Take some time off work
The first few days after having Lasik surgery you need to allow your eyes some time to heal and therefore avoid doing anything that puts any strain on the eyes. For instance, avoid reading or looking at screens for the first few days after having Lasik. Although it is possible to go to work the day after having surgery, it is best to take a few days off and particularly if your job puts any strain on your eyes. It is worth speaking to your eye doctor and asking them for their advice on how long you should take off work.
Use sunglasses
Your eyes are likely to feel sensitive for a few weeks after surgery and therefore you need to ensure that you protect them as much as you can. When you go outdoors make sure that you wear sunglasses that have UV protection so that the light that enters your eyes is reduced, particularly on sunny days.
Avoid showering
Following Lasik surgery, you should avoid showering and opt to bathe instead. It is important to not let water into your eyes to avoid any complications.
No cosmetics
Similar to water, you need to avoid any chemical products from entering the eye after having Lasik surgery. You will need to wait a couple of weeks before you can use any eye make up.
Don’t avoid seeking advice
If you feel that something doesn’t seem right then make sure that you contact your doctor as soon as possible. There is no reason for ignoring something that doesn’t feel right as it’s better to seek professional advice.
Remember to attend all check-ups
The weeks and months after you’ve had Lasik surgery you will be given appointments to see your eye doctor and you will need to attend these appointments. These appointments give the doctors a chance to see how your eyes are healing and for you to ask any questions that you may have.
Even if you feel that your eyes have healed and you have no issues, it is still very important to attend these check-up appointments.
By taking all of the above advice into account you will ensure that you give your eyes the best possible care and help them recover after Lasik surgery.
