1. Routine Maintenance

A general rule of thumb would be to service your HVAC system at least semi-annually to make sure that it’s running properly. Having a proactive maintenance program for your HVAC system is a good idea because the most efficient system is the one that is operating without any broken components or parts.

2. Temperature is Important

Most HVAC systems can be set at an optimum and stable temperature to maintain energy efficiency throughout the day. While the temperature of the thermostat is largely down to personal preference and comfort, it could be wise to have an optimal temperature. To achieve this, make sure to get in contact with your service technician and discuss the optimal and most energy-efficient temperature on your HVAC system. Fluctuating temperatures are to be avoided as it can make your HVAC system less efficient in terms of heating/cooling and energy efficiency.

3. Seal Your Home From Drafts

It’s crucial that you stop air infiltration during the entirety of the year, not just during the winter months. Air leaks can lead to poor runnings of your HVAC system due to home robs. The efficiency of the heated or cooled air is lost if our home is filled with leaks from which the air can escape. To avoid any air leaks, make sure to keep your windows shut and make sure the doors have good weather seals before turning your HVAC system on.

4. Adequate Insulation

Older homes have a particular problem of having inadequate insulation, which is a factor that leads towards losing heated or cooled air from your HVAC system. The best way to solve this problem would be to consult with an energy auditor or insulation professional and discuss whether or not your home needs to beef up on insulation, it is suggested by highperformancehvac.com.

5. Turn Down the Thermostat

It could be wise to turn down the thermostat during the heating season for at least 8 hours a day. According to studies conducted by the U.S. Department of Energy, turning down your thermostat back 10 to 15 degrees can save you up to 15% in heating bills each year, just make sure to do that at least 8 hours a day.

6. Change The Air Filters

It is wise to change the air filters of your HVAC system at least once per month. This ensures uninterrupted airflow and smooth operations that promote energy-efficiency. If you need to change the air filters, visit greenleafhvac.net.

7. Use Curtains

Window coverings can have a major impact on your home’s heating or cooling. During the colder months, harness the heating power of the sun by opening your windows during the day to allow sunshine coming in; close them during the night. Do the opposite during the hotter months.
