What is the Real Reason Prince Harry Wants a Daughter as his First Child?

Since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced their pregnancy last year, they have had a pretty hard time hiding their excitement about the happy news. Although most other royals keep their private matters a heavily kept secret, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are no strangers of giving away small clues and hints about their firstborn royal baby, including what gender they hope their first child is.

Prince Harry wants a daughter

The royal pair announced their pregnancy on the first day of their Australian royal tour. In addition, while the well-wishers made remarks and congratulated them on their soon to arrive royal baby, one fan allegedly yelled to the prince “I hope it’s a girl!” The Duke of Sussex and the new husband immediately replied with “so do I!” Although the newlyweds would probably be happy either way, the passions for gender equality and feminism they both share could be one of the reasons they have their fingers crossed for a new baby girl.

He is a feminist

In the months after the confession, Prince Harry has given the royal fans a lot of clues on the reason why he might want to father a daughter. Moreover, he recently gave some additional, major insight into this. While he visited Birkenhead with his wife Meghan, he met with the members of the organization called Tomorrow’s Women Wirral. It was their that he first claimed his feminist beliefs.

Angela Murphy, the CEO of the charity, said in a statement, “During a discussion about Tomorrow’s Women Wirral being a women’s only centre [SIC] Prince Harry, to our delight, declared ‘I’m a feminist’ and highlighted that it is equally important for men to support the movement in female empowerment.”

The news is not and should not be very shocking, given the fact that that Meghan made several remarks about being a feminist herself. She also once shared Harry’s views on this matter, by telling a fan that the Duke of Sussex is “a feminist too”. This happened while she was visiting Wales in January of 2018.

Meghan Markle already has a special gift for her little princess

Even before Meghan Markle met Prince Harry and joined the royal family, she had a daughter in her mind. If the pair is to welcome a daughter in the spring, the duchess already has a very special present for her little baby princess.

While she worked as an actress, the current duchess bought a Cartier Tank watch to celebrate her success. She told Hello! At one point, “When I found out Suits had been picked up for our third season — which, at the time felt like a milestone — I totally splurged and bought the two-tone version. I had it engraved on the back, ‘To M.M. From M.M.’ and plan to give it to my daughter one day. That’s what makes pieces special, the connection you have to them.” We think this is a very cute mother-daughter gift.

“One of the joys of our visit to New Zealand has been the opportunity to meet so many young New Zealanders who are devoting their talents and energy to making a difference. There are creative, gifted and caring Te Arawa Rangatahi (young people) here, who are using their talents to preserve and promote the Māori language, to support mental wellbeing, and to achieve in areas that will benefit their communities, and their country.” — In Rotorua The Duke and Duchess of Sussex visited Te Papaiouru Marae, where they met the local Te Arawa and Ngāti Whakaue iwi. Korowai (feather clocks) were placed on the shoulders of The Duke and Duchess of Sussex in preparation for the spectular Pōwhiri, the Ceremony of Welcome. Thank you to everyone that made Their Royal Highnesses final day of their tour such a special one! ? Mark Tantrum / Kensington Palace / PA #RoyalVisitNZ #New Zealand #Rotorua

Do Prince Harry and Meghan Markle know the baby’s gender?

No one is certain if Prince Harry and Meghan Markle currently know their baby’s gender. In America, it is a popular and widely famous tradition to find out the gender of a baby ahead of time. Some therefore think that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex already know which gender their firstborn is going to be. However, most women in the royal family do not know the gender until the time of birth.

Meghan’s due date

In the same visit to the town of Birkenhead, Meghan revealed her insight into the due date of her first child. Her son or daughter could arrive in mid-April, but some speculate that it could happen closer to Princess Charlotte’s birthday, which is in early May.
