One of the most interesting events from last year was the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. They got married on May 19, 2018. The wedding was a typical, luxurious royal wedding. But there was something that wasn’t so typical about it, and something that wasn’t approved by many.

Meghan is an American actress, she was married before and she is biracial. These are some of the reasons people thought that she wasn’t the right fit for the royal family. But they were so wrong. Markle is doing really well as a member of the royal family now. And something that others didn’t consider is that Meghan is not the first celebrity that became royal. She is also not the first biracial woman, the first American or the first divorcee that married a royal.

On our list, you will see some of the famous women who became royal before Meghan Markle did.

4.   A.J. Langer

This actress from My So-Called Life married Charlie Courtenay, 19th Earl of Devon. The two of them married in 2005 and got the title of Lady Courtenay. Later she got another title, Countess of Devon. They have two children together, a son named Jack Haydon, who is the heir to the royal title, and a daughter Joscelyn Sky.

5.   Luann de Lesseps

The star from Real Housewives of New York City Luann de Lesseps got the title of Countess when she married French businessman Alexandre de Lesseps, who is also a Count. And if you don’t know the ranking of a count, it’s lower than a prince or duke, but it’s higher than a baron. They were together for 16 years, but they divorced in 2009 after he had an affair.

6.   Jessica Chastain

In 2017, Jessica Chastain married Gian Luca Passi de Preposulo. Her husband is from a noble family, and his parents use the titles of a count and countess. That means that one day Luca can inherit the title of a count from his dad, and Jessica will become a countess.

8.   Zsa Zsa Gabor

Super famous Hungarian-American actress Zsa Zsa Gabor was married nine times, and she a royal title the last time she married. She married Frederic Prinz von Anhalt and became a Princess von Anhalt and a Duchess of Saxony. The two married in 1986 and stayed together until Zsa Zsa passed in 2016.

11.   Carole Radziwill

The son of Prince Stanislaw and Lee, that we mentioned before, Prince Anthony married Carole DiFalco in 1994. Their marriage lasted only five years because he died from cancer, at the age of only 40. Carole became a star of the TV show Real Housewives of New York City.

12.   Charlene Wittstock

She was married before, but despite that Prince Felipe of Spain was interested in her, and the two of them started dating. It was a secret until Nov. 1, 2003, when the Spanish royal family announced that Felipe and Letizia are going to get married. Their relationship was very strange for the people, but Felipe’s parents, Queen Sofia and King Juan Carlos were very supportive. The two married in 2004. In 2014, King Juan Carlos abdicated from the throne making Felipe the king. Felipe became King Felipe VI and Letizia became the Queen Letizia of Spain.

14.   Emma McQuiston

Emma was a chef and a model and in 2013 she married Ceawlin Thynn, Viscount Weymouth. She then became Emma Thynn, Viscountess Weymouth, and Britain’s first black future marchioness. That means that Meghan Markle is not the first biracial member of the royal family. It is interesting that neither of the Ceawlin’s parents was at the wedding ceremony, because his mother, Lady Bath was not invited, because she had some racist comments about Emma. They’ve had two children via surrogate, The Honorable Henry Richard Isaac Thynn, and The Honorable John Alexander Ladi Thynn.

15.   Grace Kelly

And the last, on this list, but certainly not the least, is the famous Grace Kelly. Grace Kelly was a Hollywood megastar and she married Rainier III, Prince of Monaco in 1956, and became Princess of Monaco. The couple had three children, Caroline, Princess of Hanover, Princess Stephanie, and Albert II, Prince of Monaco. Grace Kelly and Rainier III were together for 26 years, until she had a tragic car accident, in 1982. After the accident, the family chose to take her off life support.
