Consider this video a cautionary tale about ad-libbing on set, because Owen Wilson seems to be guaranteed to use the same handful of phrases and interjections in every single movie he makes, regardless of the movie’s content. It’s a problem.
One of these phrases is “crazier than a road lizard,” which he recites in four separate movies (to be fair, two of them were “Shanghai Noon” and “Shanghai Knights,” but the other two weren’t Jackie Chan movies). I did some digging, and apparently road lizards are crazy because they sun themselves on hot pavement, which is basically suicidal. You’re welcome for that tidbit of useless information.
I’m trying to keep this post sans-pun, but it is honestly sort of unbelievable how often he makes an appeal to some other character’s honesty. Guys, this is the more successful of the Wilson brothers. Just think about that.
