Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are excited to have their first child. Since the announcement, royal family fans have been trying to discover what the baby’s name will be. However, the decision may not be entirely their own.
Royal names aren’t simple
Most people have a first, middle and last name, but when it comes to royals, things are more complicated. They are usually named after family members who came before them. For example, Prince Harry’s name is actually Prince Henry Charles Albert David Mountbatten-Windsor. Thankfully, everyone calls him simply Harry. The situation is the same for Prince William, he goes by Prince William Arthur Philip Louis Mountbatten Windsor but is called Will by his friends and family. Knowing this, we can assume that their child’s name will be everything but simple.
Baby Name Options
Even though we cannot say for sure what Harry and Meghan’s options are, experts and people close to them have some suggestions. Experts think that the name Artur is one of the options since both William and Louis have it as their middle name. For a girl, a suggestion is Alice, since it was Prince Philip’s mother’s name. Despite some names being more popular than the other, they can still be surprising. Only a few people expected Will and Kate’s son’s name to be Louis
Queen Elizabeth has a say in this decision
Even though parents will probably choose their child’s name, the Queen technically has custody over their future baby, which gives her the right to name it however she wants. She probably won’t take that away from Harry and Meghan, but they certainly will consult her and ask for approval.
The possibility of homage to Princess Diana
Even though the gender of the baby is unknown, some believe that Harry and Meghan will name the child after Princess Diana, Harry and William’s mother. Her full name is Diana Frances Spencer, so they have possibility for male, female and gender neutral name. However, we will have to wait until April, which is Meghan’s due date to see the name combination they’ll choose.
