Even though Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s marriage didn’t work out, things did look great at the beginning. Apart from the infidelity stories and public trash-talking, they seemed like two young people in love. At their wedding day, they did something that changed the British royal protocol.
After they tied the knot at Westminster Abbey, the couple and the rest of the family went back to Buckingham Palace to pose for official wedding portraits and great a huge number of fans. When they were waving on the balcony, Charles kissed Diana’s hand and then the crowd chanted for Charles to kiss her, which he did. They were the first royal newlyweds to kiss for the world. Also, Diana did another exceptional thing. During the ceremony, she omits the word “obey” from her vows, making her the first royal bride to do so. Kate Middleton and Megan Markle followed her example on their wedding days.
Their act made it acceptable for royal couples to show affection for each other in public. Other couples, including Prince William and Kate Middleton, and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, act just like them.
