What to do When Your Period is Late?

by Wendy Stokes October 1, 2018
by Wendy Stokes October 1, 2018

Every woman goes through this sooner or later. The first, and the most important thing, is to not panic. However, that is much easier said than done. Nicole Jardim explains what to do if your period is late.

If you know for sure that you aren’t pregnant, you need to look back at that month and figure out what exactly happened that led to this situation. All women should trust their bodies and they should listen to what it has to say. But that is not always easy and sometimes it is hard to figure out the messages and the signs.

Here are some of the steps Nicole did when her period was late. These can be done by anyone and they should help you find out the reason.

It is important to track your period on your phone or any other device. To get a bigger picture, literally and figuratively, you can always download it to your PC. That is the first step.

Also, you should know your body best and in case you had ovulated on day 14, that would have meant that you’d get your period on days 28 or 29, which is how it should be for average women.

However, you cannot exactly be sure whether you ovulated or not. Try to remember, by looking at the calendar whether you had any traumatic experiences that would set that back. In Nicole’s case, it was a visit to the gynecologist, but for you, it can be anything else.

Also, during that week she had to ovulate, Nicole visited the dentist twice and the foot doctor as well, which according to her words, was very traumatic. Even if you try to stay relaxed, these are not our daily errands and we are exposed to stress a lot more than we believe.

But that is not all. Nicole was doing a gut cleansing in the beginning of the month and that could have played a role as well. After checking out everything, her ovulation actually came four days later than it was normal.

After that Nicole was having a dialogue with her body and we have transcribed it here. The body is where the clues and answers are and this is what it looked like:

BODY: “Not another one!  I’ve been doing this for 20 years; building castles in the sand only to have the tide come in each month and wash them away! What’s the point?!?!”

NICOLE:  “I’m sorry.  I know you’re angry but it’s just not the right time for me right now. I appreciate all the hard work you do and you build the most incredible castles and I’m so grateful for that. I work with women everyday whose bodies aren’t building the castles they need so I truly understand the importance of this work. But my soul is still wandering and it’s just not the right time for me to settle down and move into one of the amazing fortresses you create”

BODY: “Ok, understood. Can I take a couple of months off then and you can just tell me when your soul stops wandering (whatever that means!)?”

NICOLE:  “NO!!!  I really do need you to continue building your amazing castles, even though they are destined to wash away. It’s so important to me that you continue to do this.”

BODY: “Why?  It’s a lot of work you know!  And in the end all that work gets destroyed and I just need to start from scratch and do it all over again.  I’ve been doing this for 20 years and I’m losing my mind!”

NICOLE: “I’ll tell you why; because life is about possibilities.  Each day I spend my life opening new doors and exploring new possibilities in this amazing labyrinth of the universe.  But you possess the greatest possibility of them all; the potential for future life.  I need you to protect this possibility, guard that door and keep it strong and unlocked.  My wandering soul is out right now on great adventures helping other women all over the world build beautiful castles but at some point I will want to come home and when I do I need your castle to be there waiting for me.  I need that possibility, the greatest possibility, to always be there waiting for me.”

BODY: “I’m the protector of the greatest possibility?!?!  Yipppeee!!  I will continue to work hard for you my lovely Nicole and I will not let you down!  If it’s not too much to ask, could you send me some additional supplies?  I could really use some extra progesterone to make the walls more stable so please stop stressing so much and eating those cupcakes, they intoxicate my construction crews and I’m tired of having to discipline unruly drunken laborers!  If you can do that for me then I will continue to build beautiful castles for you each month and will protect the greatest possibility with all my heart and all my soul!”

NICOLE:  “That’s a deal my beautiful Body! I will do everything I can to give you everything you need.  Sometimes I really want a cupcake though so if I mess up now and then please don’t get too mad. I promise it will be gluten free and made with natural sugar!”

THE END

Although she described it quite theatrically, Nicole really proved the point here. With her period coming four days later than usual, she realized that it is her body she needs to listen. It was a clear reminder for her that her body is actually working for her and that she needs to treat it right if she wants for it to be as good as possible.

As soon as you realize that your body is not a burden or a beast we need to get under our control, the better. We need to treat it with respect it deserves and listen to the signs. Otherwise, our period will be late and that leads to additional problems and we get into the vicious circle from which it is hard to get out. This is probably one of the most valuable things Nicole learned about herself and her body and it is not late for you to learn it as well.

The signals we get from time to time may be subtle, but we must not ignore them. And just like Nicole had a fantastic conversation with her body, she challenges every woman to do the same – to open up and who knows what they may find out. You can be in control of your health, but it is important that you are responding to how your body behaves and not to try to impose your habits by force.

This is a common thing that happens to everyone, but from a simple process described in this article, there is much wisdom to be gained. Don’t take this for granted because who knows when you might find this useful. The issue here was a period that was late, but tomorrow you may encounter some other problems regarding your body and fail to listen to the clues. It can seriously put your heath to jeopardy and if you are not careful enough, you will be wondering how come you have reached a low point regarding your health.

What do you think of this?
