If you’re reading this article now, you must have been researching a lot about health benefits of E-bicycles as you may have a plan to purchase one, or already have purchased one. Surely, you have read about the benefits of riding bicycles and E-bicycles such as, improved cardiovascular and pulmonary health, increased ability to reach your fitness goals, improved joint mobility and musculoskeletal strength, so on and so forth. Yes, these benefits are definitely up there in terms of what they bring to the table, and you can always revert to those articles if need be, but I would like to tackle this article differently by focusing on one of the most underrated health benefits usually neglected. It is called having fun. Or in other words, mental health benefits. You can easily accomplish your fitness goals, get your daily dose of exercise and physical exertion, while having fun.
In the modern world, our daily lives revolve around the daily grind which includes the daily commute to and from work, groceries, bills, gas prices, office politics or politics in general (if it still matters to you), and I get it. Honestly, I do. We need to survive. We need to supplement our daily needs. But this also means that stress levels are going through the roof, which also means that your mental health is being affected in ways that you may not notice as quickly compared to a physical hit in the face, which is not good at all. Depression and anxiety will get you when you least expect it.
So get on your E-bike, and take the long way to work. Ride your E-bike to meet up with your friends or family. Enjoy the scenery. Enjoy the wind in your face. Avoid the traffic and cruise all the way home. Forget about looking for parking spots. Forget about this week’s gas prices. Pimp up your E-bike, remember, retail therapy works, and adding a bit of bling to your E-bike won’t hurt, plus it will improve your happiness levels. All these things affect your happiness levels, which in today’s world, is of utmost importance. Having fun around the daily grind will significantly improve your mental health.
Here are a few of the best things that an E-bike can do for you, while you have fun riding them:
Contents
1. Save more money.
Obvious isn’t it? But this is pretty much the most impactful right now. Not only will you save on gas, but you’ll also save on expensive maintenance costs, insurance, parking fees, registration fees, car wash bills (or buying cleaning materials if you wash your own car), accident repair costs, parking tickets. Need I say more?
2. Reduce stress levels.
Sick and tired of dealing with unpredictable traffic? Remember the time when you were late for a meeting because you couldn’t find a parking spot? Stuck in bumper to bumper traffic? Just imagining these situations will surely make you anxious. All these problems will more than likely be eliminated when on an E-bike, as you cruise through traffic, and bring your bike into your office. Lock your bike up right next to where you have your meeting. Easy. Just riding a bike gives you a sense of freedom, making you feel great and awesome, which is great especially when riding can be something else to look forward to after a tough day at work.
3. Self Improvement.
Learning new things are always a bonus. Constantly growing our knowledge base adds to our happiness. You will have to learn how to do basic E-bike maintenance like changing flat tires, checking your brakes and replacing brake pads. You’ll learn new routes around town, maybe even discover new restaurants or establishments where you and your friends or loved ones can hang out.
4. And of course, improved fitness levels.
Your fitness correlates to your happiness levels, as your physical health affects your mental health. After using your E-bike regularly for a few days, you will feel a great sense of accomplishment as you realize the distance you have been able to travel while using only an E-bike. You will notice that you have that extra bounce in your step, the ease of which you climb that flight of stairs at work that you always dread. You begin to feel less of that nagging knee pain that kept you from joining the sporting activities that you’ve always wanted to be a part of. There are heaps of other physical health benefits proven by medical research, but I won’t expound on them here as I would like to focus on the fun stuff.
“But what about rain or snow?”
There are foul weather gear available for these situations. And riding in these challenging situations will only affect your well-being positively, as these will be new challenges that you can overcome and add to your bucket list. Please remember that you can still use your cars. Especially when the weather is too foul to safely use your bike.
“Bike maintenance is a pain. I can’t see myself changing a flat tire.”
I’d rather change a bicycle tire than a car tire any day. Imagine getting a flat in the middle of a highway, causing a traffic jam, and the embarrassment of needing someone to help you because your jack doesn’t want to work properly. Also, remember that bicycle shops don’t charge much to change your bicycle chains, or install accessories that you want to add.
“E-bikes won’t offer much physical exercise. You only use the electric motor.”
You may use the electric motor more when starting out. But you will learn how to use electric power more effectively after a few days, especially once you start running low on batteries. Ideally, use your electric power when climbing up tough hills, or maybe even when going to work, to avoid being sweaty at work, then pedal back home in the evening, then you will get your daily dose of exercise.
There are a lot more excuses out there, but there is no denying that riding your E-bike regularly will only improve your overall wellness and bring you more positivity to spread around. Get out and have fun, but remember to always keep safe!
