St Andrew’s University, 2002
It is generally believed that Kate first received attention from William after her part in a charity fashion show, all the way back in March of 2002. The Prince had a £200 front row seat, just to watch the beautiful student. She encouraged him to continue his studies when it was hard for him to accept university life. Interestingly, Kate first broke up with her boyfriend, before starting a relationship with William.

The first picture of them appeared, four months after they started dating. The lovely pair rook a trip to Klosters, which confirmed that Prince William enjoys his first serious relationship a lot. In addition, she spent several weekends at a cottage on the Queen’s Balmoral, and made a hard effort to keep their relationship a secret. Clarence House said at the time, “It is not our policy to discuss the nature of Prince William’s relationships with his friends. It wouldn’t be fair on him or them.”
First royal wedding, 2006
Two years later, Kate experienced her first royal wedding, when in May of 2006, they attended the wedding of Laura Parker Bowles and her husband, a Calvin Klein underwear model and accountant, Harry Lopes. This was their first appearance together at a family wedding, a sign to the fans that Kate was a permanent presence in the life of their Prince.
Graduation, 2005
In June of 2005, their university life ended. When their graduation ceremony was over, their families joined them, after which they went for a celebratory lunch together. After this, nothing was the same. This was the end of their somewhat secluded and private life together. Spotlight was about to hit them.
Kate protects her privacy, 2006
The presence of the beautiful brunette sparked a constant media frenzy, as engagement rumors never stopped. Kate was compared to William’s late mother Princess Diana, for her elegant looks like the iconic red coat and black hat. She was the number one target for the paparazzi, and the two were followed closely all the time.
When William left Sandhurst in December 2006, it was the first time his girlfriend was seen at a major public event, attended by the Queen and other royals.
As January rolled in, her lawyers considered legal action because of the photographers and the constant tracking of her every move. In March, she issued a complaint to the Press Complaints Commission, over one paparazzi photo from the Daily Mirror, that showed her going to work with coffee in her hands. The paper apologized.
Split rumors, 2006
That April, everyone was shocked by the reports of a potential split between the two. Although Clarence House did not comment, BBC Royal Correspondent Peter Hunt had this to say, “It’s a surprise, because it had seemed very stable and very steady.”
Sources said the decision was mutual. “Neither my client nor her family will be talking to the press or media or commenting on or off the record relating to the matters publicized this morning,” said the lawyer of Kate.
William refuses to comment, 2006
In July that same year, they still did not officially reunite. At the Concert for Diana, Kate sat two rows behind the Royal Box. Prince William remained silent on the status of the relationship. One day prior to Wembley concert, he was asked about Kate’s attendance. “I’ve got lots of friends coming. Everyone’s going to be there on the night and it’s going to be a very good night.” His brother joked, “Really well avoided William, very diplomatic.”
The Seychelles, 2007
In August of 2007, the pair went to the Seychelles, while it was reported she now has the keys to Clarence House. In order to keep everything low-key, they booked the whole resort for £20,000, and went by as Martin and Rosemary. “They thought it would be fun to use joke names. They are enjoying pretending to be an ordinary young couple in love on a romantic holiday,” said a local journalist.
Furthermore, the son of the Seychelles president installed an exclusion zone around Desroches, the island paradise where they pair stayed. Fans were betting on whether she will bring back a ring, and that they will even get married there.
Kate visits Balmoral, 2007
Kate met the Queen first time after the split rumors, as they went to Balmoral, a royal Scottish hideaway where Prince Phillip and Queen Elizabeth spend their summers. “William said the Seychelles holiday with Kate was perfect because it was just the two of them. William was originally going to take a group of friends stag-shooting to Balmoral, but decided he wanted some time with Kate. They are very much in love and want to enjoy their relationship out of the spotlight before they go public again,” said a friend of the pair.

During an Easter break at Klosters, William participated in a pilot training course at RAF Cranwell, Lincolnshire. Kate got a Royal Protection officer for the first time. A further sign of her importance was the presence of Prince Charles, who joined them later. A source said, “It speaks volumes about the seriousness of the relationship she has with the royal family. Kate and William had a little time apart last year, but that is very much behind them now. They are very much together.”

Royal Wedding, 2011
In April of 2011, Kate and William held their royal wedding in what was a spectacular ceremony at Westminster Abbey. She emerged from a stunning Phantom Rolls Royce VI, an angelic vision in an ivory silk tulle Alexander McQueen wedding dress. She took her father Michael’s arm and made her way up the steps to the abbey, as gasps from the crowd never stopped.
The ceremony combined pomp and pageantry, while numerous personal touches could be spotted everywhere. Kate was then became Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge. On the balcony of the Buckingham Palace, as the Union Jack flags were waiving and the fans cheering, William told his new wife, “Let’s give them another one,” as he kissed her again.
First official tour, 2011
The newlyweds made their first official tour over the seas two months after the “Wedding of the Century”. They went to US and Canada and stayed for 11 days. This fell on the 225th anniversary of the first royal visit to Canada, carried by Prince William. This was also exciting for Kate, as she had never been to North America. They were welcomed warmly, as the locals showed appreciation and respect for Kate.
