One of American’s guilty pleasures for sure is gossiping about the members of the British royal family. They seem to never get enough details about things such as Prince Charles and Camilla’s affair or Kate Middleton’s style. Those who pay attention must have noticed that Sarah Ferguson isn’t so popular between the royals.

Sarah Ferguson, or “Fergie” as the media call her, is the ex-wife of Prince Andrew, Queen Elizabeth’s son. She is known in America for her relationship with Weight Watchers in the 90s and her charity work. However, British royals remember her differently.
Media and topless photos
Even though she was beloved within the family in the beginning, things changed when she and Prince Andrew announced their separation in 1992. They find her behavior quite embarrassing- later that year she was photographed sunbathing topless in the company of John Bryan, an American financial manager. The pictures of him kissing her feet were published in Daily Mirror. After that, Queen’s sister, Princess Margaret, wrote her a letter saying that she had brought more shame to the family than she ever imagined.
Money troubles
Fergie did go through some financial issues, due to her poor choices and big spending. She also claimed that she received only 15.000 pounds from her divorce settlement, but it was later found out that the actual amount was around 3 million. Also, there was a situation in the mid 90s, when she had a 4.2 million pounds deficit on her bank account, which she solved by going on an “a four year earning spree” in the U.S. Even though these things weren’t so good for her reputation, an incident in 2010 changed the family’s opinion of her forever.
Money for excess to Prince Andrew
In 2010, one reporter posed as a businessman and offered her a tremendous amount of money for access to Prince Andrew, which she was caught on film accepting. Prince Andrew forgave her, and they maintained a friendship after the incident, but the rest of the family wasn’t so easy on her.
Criminal charges
In 2012, Turkey issued an international arrest warrant for Fergie after it was discovered that her motives for visiting the country in 2008 weren’t true. She went there to film a Turkish state orphanage, and then the country accused her of distortion of information and also for smearing the nation. She avoided extradition, but the family became even more furious.
Rumors about Prince Andrew remarrying
Even though the other members dislike the duchess, Prince Andrew isn’t one of them- he and his ex-wife have been noticed a number of times vacationing together along with their daughters. Additionally, when Ferguson was asked about her current relationship with the Prince, she was quite mysterious. The Duchess said that they never really left each other.
Prince Philip didn’t forgive her
In 2015, Prince Andrew tried to fix a gap between Ferguson and the royal family, so he invited her to the Royal Ascot. Even though everyone acted politely, Prince Philip apparently looked furious and threw shade on her.

Ferguson didn’t attend Prince William and Kate’s wedding in 2011, probably because she was seen as an embarrassment. Meanwhile, her daughter Eugenie announced her engagement, so we’ll see whether she’s come to this event.
