As the premiere of the eighth and final season of Game of Thrones draws closer, fans are getting more and more excited about the fates of their favorite characters. The turbulent history of the Seven Kingdoms has seen many of them slain leaving the fans heartbroken. As the army of the Dead approaches Winterfell and Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen prepare their defenses, it is certain that new deaths will surely cause some tears of the faithful audience.
There have been numerous theories on how the show will end, but by far the most shocking is the one claiming that Daenerys Targaryen, Mother of Dragons herself, will die in the battle and become the Night Queen.
The theory originated in Reddit when one of the users – marisaann26 – proposed it several days ago. It was based on a vision Daenerys had in Season 2 of the series, in which she walks through the ruins of King’s Landing and the snow is falling through the holes in the roof of the throne room. The Iron Throne itself is covered in snow and she almost touches it, but hearing her dragons crying, she turns away and returns to Drogo’s tent.
There are many other hints and clues marisaann26 based her theory on, but perhaps the most indicative one is an interview with Emily Clark, who plays Daenerys Targaryen.
“In an interview with the actor that plays the NK, he said that ‘we will learn WHO the Night King is after.’ In an interview with Emilia Clarke (Dany), she talks about the final season and said, ‘It f*cked me up—knowing that is going to be a lasting flavor in someone’s mouth of what Daenerys is and that Dany is doing really weird stuff. One way or another, both living dragons will die in battle. Distraught by losing her dragons, Dany will be persuaded to join the Night King to be reunited with her dragons = she gets her ICE THRONE.”
Another thing that should help convince you about this theory is that the music played during Daenerys’s vision is the White Walker’s theme music. George R. R. Martin would really outdo himself if he turns Mother of Dragons into the Night Queen, something many fans would never forgive him.
