Despite being the ‘’Virgin Queen’’, when Queen Elizabeth I came to the throne in 1558, there were endless rumors about her ‘’secret lovers.’’ One of them, Robert Dudley was found dead in 1560 at the bottom of the staircase with a broken neck. The question whether Queen Elizabeth I was the one to murder him has never been solved.
1817 crisis
King George III lost many things in his life. First, the United Stated in 1776, and later in 1810 his mind when he tried to persuade his nine sons into marrying women just so that she can give a legitimate heir. King George IV, his eldest son, married in 1795 but his only child died childless in 1817. That is when a ‘’succession crisis’’ began when King George III’s sons went on to marry European princesses in a race to conceive the next heir. Edward, Duke of Clarence, King George III’s third son won, as he became a father to Victoria, the future Queen Victoria in 1819.
Adultery
That same son who won, Edward, became King George IV in 1820. He resented his wife, Caroline of Brunswick, and the two didn’t live together for over twenty years. His hated toward her went so far, in order to keep her off the throne he tried divorcing her, stating how she was adulterous. Ironically, George was the one with numerous affairs, and the public stood behind Caroline instead of him, despite his belief that it would be the other way around.
Charles and Diana
Princess Diana and Prince Charles separated in 1992, and then the scandals came. It started with Diana’s famous line “there were three in this marriage, so it was a bit crowded,” then Diana’s own affairs came to sight, and everything ended when Diana tragically lost her life in 1997.
Love over throne
King Edward VIII decided to abdicate the throne in after no longer a year as a king. He wanted to marry Wallis Simpson, an American socialite who was getting divorced for the second time at the time he became king, in 1936. Since marriage to a divorcee with a living ex-spouse would have violated both civil and religious law at the time, he made a history-changing move and abdicated the throne just so he could marry the woman he loved.
Princess Margaret’s love life
Queen Elizabeth II’s sister, Princess Margaret had an affair with a married man called Peter Townsend. Even though Townsend got divorced in 1952, and he and Margaret wanted to get married, the scandal was so big for their love to handle. In 1960 Margaret married Anthony Armstrong Jones, but the infidelities ended their marriage,
The horrible 1992
In 1992, Prince Charles, Prince Andrew, and Princess Anne all decided to end their marriages. During that same year, Princess Anne remarried despite the living ex-spouse, which was the first time a royal remarried after a divorce.
Prince Charles
The second time a royal remarried was in 2005 when Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles got married in 2005, with Camilla’s ex-husband still alive.
Princess Consort
When Prince Charles becomes King of England, his wife will get the title ‘’Queen Consort.’’ He did post once that she will be ‘’Princess Consort’’ but that has since been removed, maybe because he wanted to appease the public’s continuing adoration and respect for the late Princess Diana.
Princess Beatrice’s boyfriend
Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi has a two-year-old son with a Chinese-American architect by the name of Dara Huang, and many believe that Princess Beatrice was to one to snatch Edoardo from Dara.
Nazi scandals
In 2005, Prince Harry went to a costume party dressed up as a Nazi, which didn’t please anyone. The other times the royal family was made in connection to Nazis was when King Edward VIII supposedly hung out with Nazi party members, and all of Prince Philip’s sisters were married to Germans, with some of them maybe being Nazis. Prince Harry and the Queen apologized for Harry’s costume.
