They are leading different lives, but they are both very important public figures. Ivanka Trump is the eldest daughter of the US President Donald Trump, and Meghan Markle is the newest addition in the royal family after she married Prince Harry in 2018 and became the Duchess of Sussex. But do these two women have something in common?
Contents
Markle’s admiration
Before Donald Trump became the US President, Markle mentioned how she admires Ivanka on her blog, The TIg back in 2014. She wrote, “Staggeringly beautiful, no question, but so incredibly savvy and intelligent that she’s not just carved a niche for herself under her father’s famed Trump notoriety, she has undoubtedly created her own empire.”
Markle doesn’t like Donald Trump
When she appeared on The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore in 2016, Markle said, “It’s really the moment that I go, we film Suits in Toronto and I might just stay in Canada. You’re not just voting for a woman if it’s Hillary Clinton because she’s a woman, but certainly, because Donald Trump has made it easy to see that you don’t really want that kind of world that he’s painting.”
Ivanka wanted to be at the royal wedding
Ivanka Trump expressed her desire to be invited to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding when the royal couple announced that they are engaged. She tweeted, “Wishing Meghan and Prince Harry a lifetime of love, laughter, and happiness together. I have no doubt that this couple will do extraordinary things, both individually and collectively. Congratulations!” Markle and Prince Harry didn’t want to invite anyone involved in politics.
Feminism
The two ladies have a very distinctive point of views when it comes to feminism. Markle has mentioned before that she was a feminist ever since she was 11 years old when she sent a letter to a dishwashing detergent commercial. The commercial said, “Women all over America are fighting greasy pots and pans.” But after Markle’s letter, they changed it to “People all over America.”
When it comes to Ivanka, she did claim she is a feminist, but she didn’t state anything yet that will help women around the world. Something opposite happened when she wrote in her book The Trump Card: Playing to Win in Work and Life, “Sexual harassment is never acceptable, and we must stand against it. At the same time … learn to figure out when a hoot or holler is indeed a form of harassment and when it’s merely a good-natured tease that you can give back in kind.”
Divorce
The thing they have in common is that they have divorced parents. Markle’s parents divorced when she was six years old, and Ivanka’s parents divorced when she was eight.
Fashion
They both have similar taste in fashion. Ivanka Trump’s $1,700 navy dress with yellow flowers, which she wore in 2018, is by Altuzarra, one of the designers Markle is a fan of. A black and white Carolina Herrera ball gown is a dress both of them wore – Markle on the cover of Vanity Fair in 2017, and Trump to an event in Washington, D.C.
Fashion designers
Fashion designers are opting more for Markle, and not the Trump family to present their creations. Designer Sophie Theallet shared on Twitter, “As one who celebrates and strives for diversity, individual freedom, and respect for all lifestyles, I will not participate in dressing or associating in any way with the next First Lady.” An insider shared with People, “This has already been going on for months. Designers wouldn’t lend to Melania, Ivanka, or Tiffany.”
